Fuel Leak - Any advice?

Hi All

Whilst fitting my pulley and serpentine belt today on my 2001 W210 E220cdi i noticed a diesel leak on the front top of the engine.

There is a ribbed plastic pipe that runs from the fuel filter to a small metal unit bolted to the very top and front of the engine cam area. Another plastic ribbed pipe comes out of the same unit and heads to the fuel rail leading to the injectors.

The leak is coming from the top pipe, where it is attached to this metal unit and is leaking from the connection.

Do i need to change the whole pipe or is there an O Ring that is meant to seal the connection that might need changing?

Also, what is this unit called, is it the fuel pressure regulator?

Thanks again in advance

Chris

There are O-rings everywhere. See the parts diagrams here.

The unit you're referring to is the low pressure feed pump.

Thanks for that.

It only leaks when it is cold and stops when the unit warms up.

I had a closer look at the connection and realised that the yellow plastic clip on the connector was half off and have pushed it in fully and cleaned the unit and pipes with engine cleaner.

I'll be able to see tomorrow when its cold again if the leak is still there or if it was due to the loose plastic circlip. If it is guess i'll remove the O Ring on monday and hopefully find a new one locally.

Thanks

Chris

that plastic circlip is not supposed to be fully in! If you push it in it actually releases the hose!

You will have to decipher if the leak is from those clear plastic pipes (cheap) or from the high pressure pump.
If its from the pump you can remove the pump and replace the seals within.

Oh I didnt know that, have to make sure theyre still connected.

Its definately coming from the plastic hose, I clearly saw the drips comming from the top connection
