Fuel pricing - time to take that tough decision?

Just a decade ago Brits couldn't use Automated pumps overnight or Sunday in France because our cards couldn't be validated .

Now you can buy fresh, hot pizza (shudder) from automated vending machines in unattended French petrol stations.

Le monde est-il devenu fou?

.
That was a real worry when motorcycling in unfamiliar territory.

The powers that be want us all in EVs and now fuel prices are at ridiculous levels 🤔

Thankfully, I now work mostly from home and so does the wife. How long before we see prices over £2 litre? 🤬🤬🤬

The powers that be is who exactly?

The government that has not touched fuel duty or VAT on fuel for how many years?

Or oil companies that 'want' us in EVs?

Not everything needs a conspiracy theory or hidden agenda.

Russia supplies a small but significant amount of global oil. The markets want to avoid it because of sanctions. Demand continues to increase due to covid recovery. Other oil markets are reluctant to overproduce. Prices goes up because there is increased demand with reduced supply.

Hardly a conspiracy....its hard fact ....they want us in EVs.....The fact that you wont be able to buy a new ICE can in the UK in just 8 years time kind of proves it really!

So what exactly is the UK governments involvement in the current price of petrol and diesel? Do tell.

I never said there was any.........

Why quote my post if you weren't referring to it then?

My post was in direct to response to the post suggesting to government was responsible for the increase in fuel prices. I said that it wasn't and that there was no need for a conspiracy. You then replied to my post saying that it was hardly a conspiracy. 🤔

No conspiracy theory. The government wants us in EVs and I don’t hear much from them in regards to the ridiculous prices currently being charged for fuel. And when demand dropped considerably during Covid, did prices drop? no

The agenda ain’t hidden either 🤣

I seem to remember that the motoring organisations were up in arms about prices and calling for a reduction. They were clearly misinformed.

Where did I say they were responsible? 🤷‍♂️

I didn't say you did say; I said you suggested. The above quote is clearly suggestive. You still haven't clarified who "powers that be" are but I speculated either government or oil companies in my post.

Clearly shows prices dropped sharply in the first half of 2020.

I'll ask again; how do you think the government are directly involved with the current rising cost of fuel?

The government don’t set petrol prices do they?

I wonder when the UK government will bring in fuel rationing then?

A solution if the problem is increased demand but reduced supply as you posite. £50 a week per taxed and insured car seems reasonable.

I suspect this would upset people more than the current fuel prices. A blanket cap like that, it could be argued, will impact those dependent on travel or a long commute more than those that only need occasional use of their cars.
