Fuel pricing - time to take that tough decision?

It's still cheaper than beer 🍺. People pay £4 a pint and don't even blink.

I'm lucky fuel-wise in that I live in London so my mileage is very low anyway. Without any French trips, my Merc does, maybe, 3.5k pa. So the extra cost of fuel might be £500 max. My wife's Fiat 500 1.2 does 1.5k pa. So the total cost of fuel might go up by maybe £100.

Those costs will be utterly dwarfed by the increased cost of heating my house. That's going to cost me thousands.

Up to £12 a pint in this bar I visited, but this photo is November 2019, so the prices will be a bit out of touch now. I'd expect up to £15 with a bit of inflation?

I think it was around £2/pint when I started drinking, and fuel was 70-80p/litre.

I think it’s more like £5-6 a pint nowadays, typical around my way, whereas fuel is about double what it was. So by comparison fuel isn’t as expensive as it could be! :)

Hi , won't take my E400 of the road but will slow my speed down. I have purchased a for two train pass plus at £20.00 p.a.

Out will come my bus pass plus will be using shanks pony as and when necessary.

If I use my car to travel into Worcester the cost is £7.20 for fuel plus £5.00 for parking.

Overall the train costs for a local journey are similar.

The bus costs nothing and use to be worth over £1000.00 per year for our local journeys.

As Bobby Dazzler stated my real concern are going to be the gas / electricity charges for my modest apartment.

On a positive note, the government is making more money than expected with the extra duty and vat......

My local Sainsbury's.. the queue this evening to the petrol forecourt was similar to a few months back when we had the tanker/driver shortage... queues blocking two roundabouts. Checked the Shell station... unleaded:167.9; Vpetrol:182.9; diesel:179.9; Vdiesel:194.9

We’ve spent zilch on petrol this year.

Wife has a new job in Wimpole Street so she gets the bus at £1.60 each way and I either cycle or get a lift with my new job.

A garage in East Cowes Isle of Wight has Diesel at £2.01 today
I suspect that News Media has to take the blame for the sharp increase in the price of Fuel Per Litre: BBC News this Morning "The cost of a Litre is now above £2" and what happens? The cost goes up!

Even if the Oil from Ukraine was shut off at the beginning of the Conflict, the cost per Litre should still be the same as the Refinement at that cost has not had time to filter through! :wallbash:

Soap Box now stored away for another day! ;) Flack Jacket ready for any Incoming!

Good to see Kwasi Kwarteng this morning banging out a new government line about price increases and inflation due to the war in Ukraine, and the British people understand and in solidarity are ready to tighten their belts.

Read: price increases and inflation were already here, not helped by successive government policies not investing in e.g. our energy infrastructure, choices on covid etc etc (the merits of which are not intended to be discussed in this thread) and the Gov now see the war in Ukraine as a convenient fascade to hide behind. I presume this is preconditioning for people in regard of little help in the budget with increasing energy and fuel costs. Maybe even a fuel duty tax increase.

In summary, don't expect any relief from fuel prices.
