E Class Estate
I am having some trouble with my 2003 E Class 320 CDI Estate. The other day my instrument cluster died I checked all the web related info and late at night I decided to have the unit checked out/repaired by Cartronix. When I refitted it no joy so I went down the road of checking the fuses visual inspection showed no problem but when I checked with a meter I found F64 to be faulty. Replacing the fuse brought things back to life and everything appeared OK. However all went dead again and replacing the fuse again brought things back to life until I started the engine at which time the fuse blew again. Everything works except the AC and all related to the steering wheel controls and the instrument cluster. The cooling fan runs continuously and the head and side lights are on but turned off at the switch.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction to solve this one.

Well from your post, something is going to a dead earth, you must get a local auto electrician involved, the aircon maybe the culprit maybe pull the fuses for that and see what happens,a electrician will just pull the lot and just add back until it blows and then he will have something to work on.

Fuse #64 feeds the rotary light switch, instrument cluster, steering column control unit and the HVAC control unit.

Get hold on the wiring diagrams and check the wires. You could also try the car with (some of) these control units unplugged if it makes a difference.
