Is it any good?

I am being quoted £299 for inside and out treatment.

My car will be parked outside on the street and am strongly considering it.

Only you can decide,
I have heard folks say buy the products yourself, but we opted for this option and although I'm not overly impressed with the outer protection (we regularly polish the car) The inside is excellent.

Our car has the very light palma grey leather interior and a long haired, very dark coloured German Shepherd is the sole occupant of the rear compartment. The car is now just over 3 years old and the interior is still like new. The dog hairs, mud etc all practically fall off the interior lining and cleaning is very easy. Is it because of the protection? I have no real idea and cannot compare, but we have no regrets about paying for this protection and will do the same again when ordering our next vehicle.

Regards
John

You can buy the PDI kits for £20. Main dealers pay someone around £25 per car to apply it. Easy enough to do yourself.

My view - stand on soapbox - all these treatments are very good paint treatment/polishes, BUT they are not worth the cost the dealers charge always around £300.

Supagard & Diamondbrite are similar, what makes them good is that they are easy to apply and easy to finish, they would have to be otherwise dealers wouldn't be using them regularly. For initial cleans they do make a difference, however I'm with John over the long term benefits.

I have to agree with Mike and Johns veiws, I ended up being given a kit by my dealer and applying all the stuff myself, quite easy to do really.

Footnote-

Although easy to do it is time consuming because there are a number of steps involved - I did mine with wifely assistance.

My MB apparently had StarShield applied by the MB Direct at 5mths; they included it on the invoice, after we'd agreed the price, so it was effectively free - clearly some sort of scam.
I was dubious it had actually been done, but 3yrs later it's quite noticeable that bird muck will still sponge easily off the car and without leaving a mark.

I bought a DiamondBrite kit off eBay for next to nothing (£10?) and did daughter's solid red Colt - mainly hoping to protect the red from fading. Too soon to tell, but it was very easy to apply - wipe on one liquid, then wipe on the sealant (leaving the first coat in place) and polish off. The only problem I had was judging how much to use - I felt I used as much as needed, but had loads left over.

I didn't bother with the interior of her car but other daughter's Ibiza has seats which stain even if a rain-drop gets on them - I used the DiamondBrite interior spray (wear a mask, or you're Scotchguarding your lungs!) and that seems pretty effective.

I will be super impressed if it stops the ed paint from fading.

good luck

Is that Mr Ed?

Never saw him painting before - I thought talking was quite an achievment.

Thanks all. Think I will go for the ebay/ DIY option. Agreed that £300 is a bit of a scam!

As margins on cars are dwidling dealers are trying to compensate with others sources of revenue, paint protection being one of them. The mark up on it is very substantial, dealers are generally paying £25-60 quid for the kit depending on the make. DIY is a much better solution.
