gearbox cooler hose

Hi can anyone tell me if i have damaged my gearbox 1995 E220 cabriolet auto i was driving about 60mph and my fan belt started to split in two and a part of it hit the gearbox hose and broke it at the nut, oil all over the engine and i lost drive ipulled ove within 200 yards and switched off. do you think i may have dammaged the gearbox?? its in the local merc specialist but he cant look at it till tue or wed.

Impossible to say, but if you pulled over within 200yds you may have got away with it. The loss of drive is a bit worrying but the obvious thing is to replace the hose fill her up with the correct amount of fluid and try it out? Fingers crossed you will be OK.

doubt you will have any problems with the gearbox - never heard of that before though
was it a very old belt or noisy tensioner - were there any warning signs that the belt was going?

I would expect some pretty big splits in the ribs well before the belt goes South.

changed the belt & tensioner last May, checked it only a few days ago must have been a faulty one.
