Gearbox service - 2016 E class

The 7G+ are 77.5k or 5y.

I think it's correct that the 9g is (officially) 77.5k, no time limit.

pretty sure the 9g is 4 years or 77500 , have you proof of the no time limit . cheers .

The acid test is if they would have included the ATF for free under a Service Care Plan.....
they always do apparently if you join it at year 5 .

I said "I think", no I have no proof either way. Possibly some 9g are 77.5 or 5y, some are just 77.5k.

The recommended fluid change interval for Mercedes-Benz 9G 725.0 automatic transmission is 6 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Your Mercedes Benz 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox oil and filter should be replaced every 77500 miles or 5 Years [whichever is the soonest].

😂 I can't understand why anyone would be confused! It's all crystal clear.

No doubt Mecedes will be changing their mind any day as well, as we approach the first chunk of 5 year intervals on the 9G.

My approach would be to get the box done at something like the 60-80k/5 year range, unless Merc can get their act together and propose/include a sensible and consistent interval in their official servicing schedule.

Geoffus did his at 7 years and 44k i think . Looked fairly dirty and the magnets seemed to have caught a fair bit of metal filings . Id personally go for 40k changes with no time limit.

Personally, I would say you should do this:

5g - every ~40k / 5y
7g - every ~40k / 3y
7g+ - every 77.5k / 5y
9g - every 77.5k / 5y

For those on Service Care Plan or just have an academic interest in what MB stipulated for their car, I would recommend to check ESS Lite - because as we've seen, different regimes may apply to the same gearbox type.

Just like their 50k air filters change , when removed are full of crows nests and fag ends , with the odd frog 🐸.

My ATF was surprisingly dirty and the single magnet was covered in metallic crud at 44,000 miles.
The ATF may still be OK for a few thousand more miles but the fact they give you 2 magnets in the service kit must mean you will get a lot more clutch particles swimming around as mileage builds, that may start to contaminate the filter on justs 44,000 miles of short journeys.

Thank you for contacting Mercedes-Benz Customer Service.

In order to ensure I had the correct information for you in regards to changing the Tronic ATF, I spoke with our Technical Team. They have confirmed that, for this vehicle, the Automatic Transmission Oil and Oil Filter should be changed every 77,500 miles.

In regards to the ESS for the upcoming Service, that is something you would need to discuss with a Retailer as they have the access to that information. I can see that Mercedes-Benz of Bridgend appear to be the closest. You can reach them via phone on 01656 868700 or via email at info@mercedes-benzofbridgend.co.uk

Can You just leave it till 77.500 and report back please. However long it takes. Thanks

Well worth it. I have noticed smoother cold temp low gear shifting since being done. Plus, any gear box repair on these can be mega bucks, so better to have the oil.change

Thanks for the help. I've got my car booked in at a Mercedes specialist for a gearbox service and it's going to be £225 plus VAT.
That should include vat ...
