is it possible to use a gearbox out of the same model car as mine but not the same numbers? ie i have a 2010 e-class and have found a box out of a 2010 e-class( Both 5-speed Autos) but the numbers are not the same can this box still be used as it looks identical to mine?
TIA

I don't have any direct experience with such a swap, but It's generally accepted on these forums that numbers should be the same for a number of reasons not the least of which is the software/electronics. Is your gearbox not repairable?

In a word, no.
The numbers must match those of your current transmission as jobsworth explained in your other thread.
As above, get your current transmission repaired properly by a Mercedes specialist.
Probably cheaper in the long run especially if you are considering buying a used transmission of unknown quality and possibly not working if its the wrong code.

An MB specialist (not main dealer), or gearbox specialist will be able to help you through all this.
A straight swop won't work and, in all probability, if you could make it work, you'd find it fails for its own reasons of age in due course.

Gearbox repairs aren't as expensive as you fear, if done by people who know what they're doing. It's not necessarily full reconditioned gearbox.

Yes, it's possible to use a gearbox from the same model car as yours, even if the part numbers are not the same, as long as it's compatible with your specific vehicle configuration. However, it's important to ensure compatibility by consulting with a qualified mechanic or Mercedes-Benz specialist to verify fitment, electronics, and gear ratios.

I'm not sure what's wrong with it, to be honest, I changed the conductor plate as it had no gears, then it had gears but when reaching operation temp the gears would slip, so changed the torque converter, now when you put it into the drive there is no motion at all in any gear the oil is full, i have a dipstick to check and now I have lost the gearbox oil, which is lead to believe has something to do with the converter so i thought a new box would be more cost affective thanks
