Genuine exhaust

I was in Colchester Europarts yesterday and quoted £287 for a complete exhaust including the catalyst. Can anyone confirm it not one those fitted by Kwik Fit that noisy and may failed MOT? I asked whether it Walker and was told no:confused: but from one of those German (I can't remember the name) company.

I am surprised at that cost - what model W202 ? My W202 has twin cats and the price for the cats is about £800.

The difference is this - The merc exhaust will cause you no problems re noise and performance and will last for ages. They are very good quality.

The other option I would take would be to go to somewhere like Longlife and have a Stainless steel system made up by them.

These are guaranteed for life, and work out to be cheaper.

I wouldn't fit Kwick Fit exhausts - what you pay for is what you get - they dont last long, sound awful, and sometimes hinder performance.

Also if Mercedes are charging you soo much find out how much of it is parts and how much is fitting labour costs. You can get this fitted far far cheaper by a decent mechanic for a lot less.

I would have to agree. Cost of vehicle v cost of new exhaust. I chose Longlife gave excellent service and been back there 3 times for different things i.e. 1 1/2 inch pipe instead of 3 inch, changed complete system to 3 inch no charge. Plus i had my centre OEM cat removed just use the Kleemann cat and header, had emission test by kwik fit (no charge) no problems would sail through an MOT.

I would visit a few stainless specialist exhaust centres before settling for MB. Hope that helps.

If that's Euro Car Parts, visit their website:

"If you have more than one part number showing on the search results page - check the first 8 digits, if they are identical in more than 1 of the parts showing, the difference between them is their make. For example: 332456780, 332456781 and 332456785 are all water pumps for a Saab except '0' indicates 'Original Equipment Manufacture', '1' indicates 'Alternative Quality Brand' and '5' indicates 'Genuine Part'.

Seems seriously cheap for a complete system including CAT....I doubt the quality for that sort of price.

If you were going to get rid of the car in the near future this might be the option, but if you are going to keep it, I'd go for something a bit better.

I had it for 11 years and it still mint imperial red because it been in the garage all the time until I bought the SLK 4 years ago. It was booted out in the open for four years, green mosses start to form in the rubber felt around the windows, the recesses of the bumper and the recesses of the front signal indicators. Rusts are starting to form around the rear wheel arches because I neglected to wash off the salts in spring. It still a marvelous car and the ride is better and less stiff than when it was new. Other than the faulty Scorpion alarm I would like to keep it for another 50K miles. It done only 100K miles. At 60K miles the exhaust was free of rust until the snow bound road in 2003 on A14 when the Highway Agency didn't salt the road at Huntington, I was stranded all night and have to drive thru a foot of snow on the road back to Ipswich. Can imagine how the rust got in the exhaust. I like to keep it longer but doubt I can keep it for more than a year after the MOT.

If you want to keep this car for another 50,000 , a £245 exhaust will not last anywhere near that amount of mileage.

I got complete new system including catalyst last month for my E300DT. MB price £1200 so i went for an indy and paid £500. Might have considered MB but seeing as i've only had the car for 2 months i opted for the cheaper version, due to low funds following purchase. I plan to keep the car long term as it drives like no other car i have owned. Love it!

At Europarts website there are:

EBERSPACHE
BOSAL
IMASAF
EAGLE
GENUINE
WALKER
HJS
REACT

Am I right to go for Eberspache, Genuine or Walker? There are no stock for Genuine. Is Genuine a brand name or genuine Merc?
