Doesn't surprise me to hear the diesels performing so well. So much research and development have gone into these engines in the race for better fuel economy over the petrol variants. I was astonished by a 530d last year I travelled in. Times have certainly changed - my V50 D5 is great fun to drive! Ehh? A diesel? A Volvo? Fun?

How long before we talk about the "astonishingly fast and entertaining Prius?!" Sounds daft but don't forget the Tesla exists already. Only a matter of time.

There's not much will catch a remapped Volvo D5 250 bhp 450 Nm torque, sounds like fun to me. Cops & Paramedics don't use them for nothing. You obviously have never driven one

As regards the tree hugging bull**** I don't run V8's and high performane cars beause they are green

police use them because volvo UK are the most cost effective as a supplier and they feel it is good brand PR to supply at reduced rates that is why various forces use different models and makes As all large companies it comes down to price!!!! ps they are not allowed to remap in breech of lease agreement & ,if you think they are fun crack on!!I dont

i think any c36 or e55 out the paper for 2-4k would run them silly volvos up and down.

Nice story (First post)

I have been tempeted to take my CDI badges off of my E320, but I do love pulling away from cars, while they gaze at my 'diesel' badge the re-map helps alot

I had a nice 'test' with a 530d a while back, over quite some distance, then from a start up a long hill - My E-class made me proud, and both myself and the BMW driver had a giggle, waved goodbye, and went on our way

Possibly, but don't underestimate them. 40mpg while hitting crazy speeds is possible. Oh and mines only got 163bhp, the 250's must be beasts.

Hi Test drove a couple of D5 205bhp auto (twin turbo) V70 estates whilst looking to change my car. They were no "ball of fire" especially compared to E320 cdi. Just way down on the E320cdi torque grunt.

I always had impresion that bomparing diesel with petrol
you have to consider torque more than bhp. I might be wrong

Off course they would but you are putting petrol against a diesel and can you honestly see cops using a E55

I love it when people take things totally out of context

Had a S60 D5 165 bhp - can see why police love Volvos if you're having to sit in it for ages...seats to die for.
As for performance - adequate is a word that comes to mind. 250 bhp through front wheels only is a scary thought - I can see new front tyres every week needed.
Turning circle of a pig...(no puns intended). Only car I have ever had to 3 point turn going up a small multi storey carpark...atrocious .....

Fuel consumption - brilliant. Drove from Swindon to Bristol then on to Inverness all on one tank....
