Getting the most out of my W202 C240

Hi Singh,

I have owned the C240 sport and I know what you mean re low end power even though that engine is silky smooth.

I now own the 230 Kompressor......much more fun to drive, bags of torque, a bit noisier but great fun when you floor it.

Also very good on fuel aswell and much cheaper to maintain......replacing the plugs and the oil on the V6 is very expensive !!!!

If I were you I'd sell the 240 and look for a late clean C230K ......bit of a rarity nowadays as most people don want to part with them.

Could be something very basic. When was the last time the spark plugs were changed ?

Ive had my C240 since last November, until around March time I thought it was fast-ish down to the fact my last car was a C180 - and that everyone on here moaned about them being sluggish never thought much more.

When I finally got it serviced (it hadnt been serviced for 3years) I had fitted new oil & fuel filters, new set of plugs etc.
It ran great fine for a day or so, misfired then the MAF died.

After it was all fixed, my C240 ran like a rocket, still does! of course its no AMG, but im still loving the performance 6months later.

Id suggest having a look at your MAF, plugs, filters etc instead of Turbos and the like as im convinced C240s arent as slow as everyone makes out.

I'll second that. When my c240 had the plugs changed 15K miles ago, it accelerated beyond belief. Left some 3.0 litres standing, and they were trying. Now I am begining to notice a slight delay in take off. I'm gonna change them soon.

I was also talking to an MB mechanic last time I was at the dealers, not a young boy, late 40s, who also drove a C240 as his own, he said that the 50K mile change that MB recommend is a "Limit milage". Told me about the carbon build up comparisons he notices, etc etc on plugs that he replaces on known customer cars, which come in regularly, Said he changes his own plugs every 20K. Only way to keep the power at peak.

But I suppose he would, as no doubt has access to plugs, by whatever means.
