GL420cdi with Brabus monoblocks

hi all.

all excited...my 'new to me' GL420cdi is going in to my fantastic main dealer to have a set of 20" Brabus monoblocks fitted to replace the 20" 5 spoke merc wheels tomorrow...:bannana:

its also getting the brabus chip fitted whilst there...:bannana::bannana:

again, as per normal, all costs ( labour and parts ) agreed after
the usual bartering with my service manager.

not really missing my E55 estate now......

Love the GL and sensible money now for what some of them would have cost. Was looking in our dealers at one that they said was 80K new... it had two sunroofs, electric rear folding seats, dvd players allsorts of kit.


whats the figures when you have the chip fitted?

out of interest what does it do to the gallon (as it is) as I guess when you get it back that will drop quite a lot

Interesting you ask how many does it do to the gallon. Miles per gallon is probably far to ambitious Once its chipped I would guess it will do around 10 lamp posts to the gallon

will post pics up when i get it back.... my dealer was going to be replacing the wheel nuts on warranty at the same time as they were all corroded (as usual! ); just had the call to say they have been working on it for 6 hours as the wheel nuts and locking bolts have seized on and they are having real problems removing them without damaging the original alloys

before chip, i did 440 miles to get home after purchase.... first surprise was filling it from the fuel light on cost....£130

2nd surprise was doing maybe 80-85 cruising all the way back WITH the cross-bars in place on the roofrails causing huge drag, it still returned about 28mpg, and does maybe 20mpg kicking about in the town.

the cross bars are being removed when my replacement chrome roof rails are replaced under warranty in 2 weeks time, so expect 5-10% fuel economy increase upon that, however the brabus remapp gives about 45bhp more (approx 350bhp ), all important torque upto 800Nm, and fuel economy has the potential to increase by 10-15% dependant on driving style; all in all not bad for a 4.2l V8 that weighs 2.5t and is 4x4...

the used GL is fantastic value, as mines with options cost the original owner approx £75k , has great road presence, excellent enviroment to be in and also to drive, and exclusive as i still havn't seen another one on the road yet...:bannana:

Theres a private school near me and they are 'fairly' common....

MPG sounds ok I was getting less out of my old ML 350

I've found on the ML320 that the consumption can actually improve in a chipped condition......provided you don't make use of all of the power all of the time. If you do, you'll be in jail!
