Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has ever done a brembo 4pot caliper conversion on a GLE63s w166. As you can see on my previous E63 there were 4pot brake calipers and on the GLE63’s rear there’s a 1pot caliper.

Would it be possible to convert them to 4pot and if so how would the electronic handbrake function? Does it require another caliper on top?

I’d be grateful for recommendations thank you!!

This is what I have in mind a 4pot calliper for main braking and a separate 1pot for the electronic handbrake.

But the question is would it be possible on the GLE and what kind of adaptors it requires

Sorry I can’t help with your specific query.

Unless the appearance of the rear calipers are ruining your enjoyment of the car, changing rear calipers won’t make any real discernible difference to performance, and will make parts supply if future more complex than it needs to be.

How much braking is done by the rear? 15-20% generally?

For sure less than with a low slung E63 - which also has better aerodynamics so more braking at the wheels required and likely, it can gain speed quicker and thus need better brakes.
The proposed change will likely deliver nothing more than unwanted ABS intervention.

Ok. I’ve got to ask…… why?
+1.
Mercedes obvioulsy think the braking system fitted is more than adequate.
It's the front brakes that do most of the braking anyway, between 60-70% of braking force.

That's one of the main reasons I bought my Beemer. It has a proper one of these!

Does it have indicators though Spikey?;)

Thank you guys for commenting your thoughts, the main reason that I would like change them is simply that braking doesn’t feel balanced and as if the rear of the car does nothing. I’ve changed the brake discs/pads in both front and rear and yet it still doesn’t feel right maybe it’s just me but wanted to get an overall opinion from everyone

It took ages trawling the car ads, months of fruitless searching in fact, but eventually the unicorn used Beemer turned up; the one where the first owner had ticked the unbelievably rare "Indicator Option" box on the order form.

I’ve never driven a car in which I can feel braking force at the rear specifically. I have the same the car and it doesn’t feel unbalanced under braking although I’m not an especially talented driver. If the car doesn’t feel stable under braking then perhaps there’s another issue, and worth getting it on a ramp. Even an MOT test maybe the list cost effective way of quickly checking.

The harder you brake the less the rears do....In an emergency stop they hardly do anything at all as they would lock up and cause loss of control due to how little weight there would be on them....the taller the car the more rear to front weight transfer there is under heavy braking, the less the rear brakes can do.

Have you turned into Zoe Balls dad this last week? You’ve turned into MBClubs geeky anorak (AKA fountain of knowledge) 😊

Or king plagiarist.
