Hi guys, on my 2000 (W plate) Vito the glow plug light stays on at all times, what could this be? I have seen lights that go off after a minute, but this one is on at all times... suggestions?

it stays on to tell you one or more glowplug is u/s

Get them all changed at the same time, or you will be doing the exercise again soon.

no a diy job may need cyl head off and glow plugs stick in the head a pain to remove
they can snap in the head !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The general advice is if you're going to change the plugs, do it very carefully and slowly, with lots of penetrating oil preferably over a period of several hours.

If the plugs are very stiff, don't force them or they'll snap in the head - and then its drill time.

Had a snapped plug before in my C220 CDI... and nothing but trouble, but about the vito, as far as Im aware, if it stays on permanantly doesnt that mean its a relay? If it was glow plugs then it should turn off after a little while shouldnt it?

Glowplugs

glowplugs

on 2000 E220CDi anyone know what they cost to get them replaced?

yesterday

on the way to work insert key, glowplug light comes on, wait a bit and it goes off, then when i start the engine glowplug light comes on again, drive the car for 2 mins and its off and stays off during the 20min journey to work. same thing on way home get into car, insert key wait for glowplug light to come on and go out which it does in 15 secs, switch on engine, light comes on and stays on for 2 minutes whilst im driving before it goes out.

local mechanic said its prob the weather and the cold could be affecting it and he has been driving his vectra like that for almost 8 months!

one more thing i bought the car 18 months ago i dont know if previous owner had them changed.

Well if they come out easily, it shouldn't really be more than an hour's labour.

You can get a quote for the plugs from that website, just email your VIN number (its on your V5, or in the car), and tell them you need some glow plugs. They're very quick, and the prices are good.

At this time of year personally I don't think its a good idea to run with glow plug problems. Saying that though, I have one thats faulty only I can't remove it as the previous owner welded it to the head:mad:

Hmm, not a mechanic to trust with your car, he knows jack ****t. One or more plugs have gone.
The job can be either very easy or a real pain if a plug snaps off. Then it can be either drilled out in situ or it's head off time.

Before you dive into removing glow plugs get the relay checked out, as on the Vito the glow plug light stops on when the rela has packed up and it's a reconised fault.

Thanx for all your feedback guys, got it checked out, was the relay...
