Repair the old unit.

Cost £00.00

I got one for £134 from dealer for a OM642 engine! So I guess that's the going price

It will blow again

and again

................

It only takes a glow plug/s to short circuit and blow the fuse link/s inside the relay,
the faulty glow plug don't care if the relay is 10 years old or 10 days, it will blow it.

Mine comes with 12 months warranty from the dealer and so far 4 months later my car starts 1st time with no hesitation after the change

One glow plug looks like it's been running hot

Well I swapped them all out, not to much fuss.

Looks like the relay is mashed 100%. Light still on.

Had a chat with sales at merc. They alone have swapped 98 relays in the last 6 months.

Shocking

I have repaired almost as many as that lol.

Once the fuse link/s in the relay are blown the light will never go out permanently and the affected glow plug/s will never heat up.

Above in my post I mentioned number 4 as looks like it's not been heating due to blown relay fuse link.

You say the solder fix is only temp. Is this the case ??? Or are your repaired units still going strong ?

I make my own fuse wire but you can buy this >http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FUSE-WIRE...-POSTAGE-/181304263788?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

I used the wording "temp repair" in the "How To" http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/elec...ir-glow-plug-relay-module-028-545-4032-a.html http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/engine/166150-glow-plug-dash-light.html as I would never recommend it as a permanent repair on a public forum.

But between you and me ..... yes all are still going strong.

:)
