How long should glow plugs last in terms of miles?

How many does a V220 have?

thanks

Some of the 220CDi's were 5 cylinder werent they?

Basically you usually have one glow plug per cylinder, similar to a petrol car having one spark plug per cylinder (unless it's a twin spark). Their useful life very much depends on the way the vehicle is used, lots of short, start-stop journeys will shorten their life.

Consensus of informed opinion on C class is circa 70-90K for "average" usage.

However, it is very much dependant on number of starts as against mileage.

Is it true that the plugs can seize, and thus require a head removal?
If so after what time frame would this occur, 2yrs etc...

That'd be a hell of a labour bill, 2Yrs at £100 per hour. :) :)

Actually it's probably not far off that due to having to remove the engine to get the head off.
