Guys, the dreaded glycol has eventually caught up with my gearbox despite having all the plumbing changed 40k ago (It's lasted really well)

So, I need a used 722.6 five speed auto. It's a W211 Il6 320cdi.

Any thoughts please ?

Get a torque converter too, the glycol can damage the lockup clutch.

Do you know the next two digits of the box? They need to be the same 722.6xx

Sorry the torque convertor will be damaged. I reckon the actual gearbox is ok, but the convertor is the problem.
The next two digits escape me, maybe someone can help.

Don't get a second hand one. It could be in similar condition. Get yours re-built.

I've got the same problem with a 02 W211 270 CDI. My gearbox is a 722.640 and it shudders on acceleration and uphill, don't know if it is just the converter or the entire transmission.

Will any 722.640 autobox fit, or does it have to have the same part number (i.e. A2112708300).

A reconditioned gearbox is out of the question, it'll cost more than the car is worth.

Not far from the Yadgar.

"Remanufacturing Torque Converters
1.The welded parts of the converter are cut apart by our highly trained and experienced specialist lathe operators.
2.After washing and examination, the unit is re-machined in our three adapted high-specification lathes.
3.The bonded friction lining is removed and a new one is re-bonded to the lock-up plate. This highly specialized process is made possible by our unique bonding machine.
4.The torque converter is welded back together, with accuracy to a few tenths of a thousandth of an inch.
5.The unit is leak tested to ensure the integrity of the weld is correct and rebalanced to meet or exceed the original manufacturer’s specifications.
6.The torque converter is shot-blasted to restore a perfect satin steel finish.
7.A coating of anti-rust and an etching identification number is applied to the finished unit.

Torque converters are supplied with a life time warranty for the vehicle that they are installed in (terms and conditions apply)."

This.

Mine went and had it re built, the whole thing.

By the time you have bought a used one and had it fitted etc, its just not worth the risk that used is also knackered.

I now know that mine is good for years. (Plus it drives amazingly!)
