Just thought you may be interested in THIS

Greater Manchester Police to usee cctv equipped Smart Cars to catch motorists, using phones, interacting with sat nav's, eating at the wheel.

Think its only a trial at the moment but beware Big Brother really is watching (Well in Manchester anyway) :)

How can you differentiate between "interacting with sat nav's" and adjusting the radio - specially if you have COMAND? Or is turning the volume up or down going to be considered illegal as well?

We all know its nothing more than a money making exercise in reality.
Sting the easy target yet again.

Ive seen a white smart car with a cctv camera sticking out of its roof, around south-east london. It was hidden away inbetween 2 parked cars so you couldnt even see it.

Luckily it wasnt a speed camera!

Personally, I think everyone should park there cars in the middle of every road in the country and go to the pub.

Lets see how the bl00dy government deals with that eh?!!

A Smart car with a twelve foot high mast with a camera on top of it :D:D

I wonder how strong any wind would have to be to blow the thing over?

I gaurantee that if I pulled on that mast, it would topple that car :)

It does sound like big brother or an April Fools joke :)

Mind you I bet big brother would not be able to climb that 12ft pole :)

It also gives a whole new meaning to pole dancing.

Contraversial suggestion
Why not have the driver of the Smart Car stand outside and actually spot the users of mobile phones, then stop the driver and report them

We are told crime is down, police numbers are up....

lets see these bobbies on the street detecting offences

Just a thought...

We are in the month of April??? can this be an April Fool or is it genuine?

I suspect it is the latter :(

Probably one of the London congestion charging enforcement vehicles. Usually operate in the central areas. Seen them many times parked up in the West End area.

Someone else thought so too....................

Is a gear stick/indicator/cigarette (they'll be next) that much different to an apple? I know they are cheaper by the pound, but you get my drift!!

Could I ask for a consensus of opinion, at the risk of a slight hijack? It's stealth related, and in the same vain of cynical revenue generation. How would you interpret this parking sign? My other half believed restictions of any sort ceased after 6pm, but she got a ticket for parking in the disabled side at 7.45pm (just finshed writing the appeal).

I can't see the image (due to the system I'm on) but surely 'Parking in the disabled side' would get you a ticket regardless???

I dont think that sign would win any prizes in the plain English campaign, 2 interpretations that IMHO could equally be justified.

1. Disabled only parking, between the hours of 8am - 6pm disabled may park for no longer than 3 hours and are not allowed to return within the hour. After 6pm disabled parking only but the 3 hour limit and no return for 1 hour are removed (i.e park for over 3 hours allowed until 8am)

2. Disabled only parking, between the hours of 8am - 6pm disabled may park for no longer than 3 hours and are not allowed to return within the hour. After 6pm any driver may park there for as long as they want until 8am

I think your decision to appeal is correct as the sign as not very clear at all

Good luck
Ian

I would have assumed the same as your other half.

However its dangerous to assume or presume anything nowadays.

A few weeks ago I saw a car being booked for parking in a loading bay at around 8pm. Either side of the bay was yellow lines which finished at 6.30pm. The warden booking the car told me the car would have been OK if it had been on the yellow lines - but loading bays are restricted to 30 minutes wait for 24 hours a day. I would have assumed the bays restrictions would have been lifted the same time as the yellow lines either side. But no.
If they can sting you - they will.

Thanks guys. Ambiguous for sure, but on reflection, the bay dose have DISABLED painted in white on the road edge of the bay. Shops with accommodation above would make you think that the hours displayed were for the benefit of disabled shoppers, but worth a try.
