Hey all,
Today I was really tempted to take the centre console apart to find out what is actually causing the gear stick to rattle when in D gear and under acceleration
Well, I got as far as taking the wood screw out (see pic), but nothing more...
Can't locate the problem... I took off the mirror switch too just because there were loads of dirt under that switch... When I tried to put it back on, a clear bit of plastic flew out (really small... 3mm*2mm approx).. And now I can't put the switch back on properly...
Well now it is on, but it's pointing to the left when it's actually controlling the right mirror... To make matters worse, the mirrors don't work anymore...
I cannot move the left mirror at all with the switch... and for the right mirror, it would only move down and not in another other directions...
I want to kick myself for taking the thing apart...
Anyway, let's see some pics...

The gearstick is somewhat loose and when it is in the position as it is, it would rattle...

however, if I push it slightly forward, it would stop rattling..

this is as far as I got... removed the screw on the left-most bit of the wood..

Anyone has any ideas on the mirror? and how to remove the wood?

thanks,
jeff

the wood removes like i told you in the other thread :)

lift the carpet in your centre console and you will see a single cross head screw at the front of the tray - undo this screw

get hold of the edge of the wood either side of where the screw was and lift vertically - it will need a bit of a pull as you have to disengage the two halves of the mirror switch

The wood then lifts out - refitting is a reverse although you may have to buy a new switch for the mirrors - I don't think the top of the switch is designed to be taken apart.

Be very careful when you start taking the shift surround apart - the W/S switch also has a tiny little bit of white plastic in it that is very easy to mislay

What thread?
Sorry it's my bad memories playing up

Heh.. Thanks Andy now I remember..
I will follow the steps..

Anyone know how to change the mirror switch?
I think I broke mine when I took the actual switch off and cleaned the dirt trapped in it...

Thanks,
Jeff

The switch should just push out once the console is off.Try this you might be able to repair it.link
