Going to look at this on Saturday - W210 E55

I cant see any faults so far, of course your main concern will be rust issues, check everywhere including the depts of the engine bay, and underneth the car. find some and use it to get some ££££ off :D

Great looking car though - needs badging up!

Its over priced a bit

I had one offered to me for £6500 with the same spec and slightly lower milage. I would have bought it but I am £6500 short.....

Hello,

Nice looking car, Personally 116K seems high how well do these engine last? I appreciate its all down to money and the age of the car now probably means that most are quite high miles.

I would have the car checked by a specialist probably the best few hundred quid you will spend.

I have been amazed at rust issues on this model of car, there was a thread once showing the suspension mount had rusted off !!!! not what you want on any car and certainly not if your bobing on.

As said car looks nice but then in small web pictures most cars do, give it a full look over, check all electrics. Take some one with you so when you press the go pedal you doun't just shout 'its sold'

Keep your head...

Good luck

Thats one specced up motor!

I would steer clear though, the car has ADS, and at that mileage it will give you probs.

I've just had to change a shock on a W210 estate, the same rear shocks as the ADS cars, £380+Vat from MB  Remember all 4 shocks in that car are that price.

I had a E55 with the ADS, its lovely when it works. Handles alot better at high autobahn speeds, would recommend it only if you do long distance high speed driving.

KLP could you give me a quick down on ADS, what it does etc,

A210 AMG, thanks, I am in a position where this car is a nice to have and the money is waiting for the right one, I have already owned a W210 E55 so I will be less likely to hit the loud pedal and buy it on the post, I know pretty much all the W210 faults so know where to look etc,

may get the service manager from my local merc garage who is a personal friend to come with me as back up........

Its adaptive ride basically. The bottom, top right on the gearstick surround panel, when pressed will firm the suspension for a more sportier handling.

Works really well at speeds of 120mph+, only used mine on a handful of occasions.

a more accurate description:

ADS
Adaptive Damping System
The standard-specification AIRMATIC suspension system of the S-Class combines pneumatic suspension with an Adaptive Damping System (ADS), which adjusts the front and rear shock absorber forces to the current payload, the condition of the road surface and driving style. A steering angle sensor, three acceleration sensors on the car body, the ABS speed sensor and the brake pedal sensor constantly measure the lateral and longitudinal acceleration of the body. From this data, the ADS control unit calculates the optimal damper setting for each individual wheel and transmits the relevant signals with split-second speed to special valves on the gas-pressure shock absorbers. These valves are able to switch between four different damping characteristics. Using a selector on the instrument panel, the driver can also switch between a standard mode or a tauter, more sporty mode. This adjusts the thresholds at which the different damping characteristics are activated. In sporty mode, the firmest characteristic is selected earlier, while in comfort mode the softest characteristic remains activated for longer.

Slightly OT , but thats Maidenhead Railway Bridge in the background ...

My mates house is in the background of the photo ( rich boy  )

The bridge was built by Brunel , and the government of the day said that no one could build a span that wide and flat out of brick , it would just never work ...

Brunel said ' I can ' and did so ...

When the government came to look at it , the wooden formers were still in place , and the government said ' It can't be safe , leave the formers in place !! '

Brunel did , and six months later , the government came to look at it again , and said ' Ok, maybe it will hold, take your formers down Mr Brunel !! '

Brunel then took them up onto the scaffolding to reveal to them that he had in fact dropped the formers 6 inches away from the brickwork since the very start and the bricks HAD been supporting themselves for all this time !!

It is still the widest , flattest brick built arch to this day !!

God bless Isambard Kingdom Brunel !!

Back on topic ....

Nice car !!

According to Industrial Revelations on Discovery the bridge did drop a little , but the bricklayer took the blame.

Still there though .... ;)

It works very well normally - and the later car will have ADSII. The problem is overhauling the system when it wears out (and it will). It's very expensive - £5k to replace it all - so a sensible warranty may be order?

Howard you need to get more sleep. :)

Couldn't agree more. The only problem is finding a warranty that will cover a car with 116k on the clock.

Howard, I love mr brunel so far play, wish I had been around in his day and worked with him,

KLP 92 - this sounds like the system we used to fit to military vehicles when they were due to how heavy loads like 155mm guns etc, how unreliable is the system, if I found in the history that it had never been overhauled is it best to walk away? KLP you said earlier that the shocks were £400 each, is that with discount? I have a Tony Purslow discount card, if the shocks are worth £1200 where does the rest come from? the system in the pinzgauer sounds similar but had few parts and wasnt that much, I assume the merc one is full of pumps, sensors etc? but then a car like that with SEP and ABS has some level of sensors on board already which this system uses?
