Going up again with another 3p per litre

I've already seen £1.22 around here

Thank God I'm on LPG :thumb: (filled up today at 57ppl).

Thank God I'm Veg. :thumb:

Interesting that £1/L seems like a long time ago, where there was talk of revolution.
Now here were are at £1.20. Was there a loss of apatite, or is human nature just lazy?
Does anyone want to by my 2004 Smart ForTwo, capable of 70mpg. Must surely be worth £5k in this market? ;)

My local stations are £1.18 or £1.22 at the moment.
Per barrel oil is only $80 when it was $150 a barrel we where paying £1.30 what the hell will pump prices go up to if it goes back up to $150 per barrel again!

The problem is also compounded by bankers investing in oil futures and having large amounts of super tankers moored offshore for months fully loaded up with oil while waiting for the prices to rise before cashing in.

Does that really happen??

Maybe motorists should invest in 'natural resources' funds to offset the rising cost of petrol? One fund I've seen has made 35% return in 12 months. Oh dear, I missed that boat.

The wholesale price of oil has increased dramatically as refineries have actually been closed. Presumably so the oil companies can charge more.

N70GP in post No.2 has the right answer as money is the only thing these rapacious bar stewards want.

I've been watching prices climb at about 2p a week (it feels like) for a while now...

Given I get a sub 20mpg average, this is no fun..

This makes for interesting reading - apparently petrol is cheaper now than in 1983...

It is a daily mail link so not exactly the best for backing up ones post but until I find a better on this'll have to do.

Petrol prices: Oil tankers loitering off British coast as they lie in wait for price hikes | Mail Online

Here's another from FT.com

But dont worry, Britain needs these bankers.

You can boycott an oil company if you want, but how do you single one out when they're all doing the same thing? Not buying from one gives money to the others unless you literally give up the pumps for a week.

If you break down the prices assuming £1.20 per litre:

47.94p Fuel
54.19p Fuel Duty
17.8p VAT

I think that filling stations should put up signs outside that tell you exactly how much of the stated PPL goes to the gov't and how much goes to the oil company - I think it would surprise some people.

Got to pay for the recession some how....

What amazes me is that oil is somewhere near $80 a barrel and petrol prices are closing in on the price we paid when oil cost close to $150 a barrel.

Now I know sterling has suffered but not this much, surely?

we are only getting $1.50 to the £1, last year it was $2.00 to the £1

No we were not.....last March/April it was $1.48 when I went on holiday. The April before it was $2.00 to the £1.00

Yep - it's been a while since it was $2=£1

When I was in Miami in September it was about $1.6ish to the £1, it's since got worse.
