Going up again with another 3p per litre

I was paying £124.9 per litre before this latest increase so dread to see what it will be now. No wonder I only do essential journeys now by car, the days of just going out for a drive are long gone.

Where did you buy your fuel from? It the most expensive I encountered in the whole world. It will be at that price in 5 years time, when nobody will be using petrol driven car but electric?:D

Was in Scotland at the weekend, village filling station near Dunfermline Diesel £1.33  filled up with Shell in Yorkshire before I left £1.11

SWMBO 5 litre V8 =

Time to get rid of this Government.

I agree, but what if the government which is going to replace this bring the prices even higher?

Time for another protest as in 2008 to avert the 3p increase on 1st April.

Huh?

So where do you head for when you're just going out for a drive? :D

I realise you've got to drive all the way back, but it still should come to less than £30! :bannana: (Just having a jest... :))
I'm not long returned from three weeks in another island paradise - Lanzarote.

Petrol there is presently 81 cents per litre - approx 74p. Did over 500 miles on less than a tankful: £45.

You can boycott an oil company if you want, but how do you single one out when they're all doing the same thing? Not buying from one gives money to the others unless you literally give up the pumps for a week.

If you break down the prices assuming £1.20 per litre:

47.94p Fuel
54.19p Fuel Duty
17.8p VAT

I think that filling stations should put up signs outside that tell you exactly how much of the stated PPL goes to the gov't and how much goes to the oil company - I think it would surprise some people.

Totally agree. Its not the Oil companies at all. Its the government. For the 48p the Oil companies get they have to do the research, exploration, drilling, refining and delivery. What do the government do for the rest?

It is also somewhat unfair that the VAT is payable on top of the fuel duty so its a tax on a tax!

The £124.9 price is not all due to the oil companies or the government, the greedy wholesaler and filling stations take an unfair share. It depends on whether there is competition between filling stations.

Interesting point. My local BP has recently rebranded and now has a M&S shop attached. The fuel price is 3-5p more than nearby others. But despite this there always seems to be plenty of cars filling up. I guess people like the convenience.

Wave a wet fish in the face of those high prices with one of these :wallbash::crazy::doh::rolleyes::p

The bit that's going to hurt is when the $/barrel recovers and is magnified by our magnificent taxation system to new eye-wateringly high levels....

Time to set up a motorists' party who will look after OUR interests in parliament !

Managed to find a station yesterday at £1.12! everywhere else is £1.18

I wonder if my emplyer will increase the mileage rate and the HMRC increase the fuel charge for use of own car?

Any bets?

but if the oil companies cut there prices in half the government would only get half the tax revenue it currently gets. it's the oil companies that decide how much to charge not the government. if you want all those things like schools, hospitals, a fire-service, a police force, the armed forces you have to get the money from somewhere.

One of the few issues I have with fuel tax is that it effects people in rural communities, of which there are plenty of relatively poor people. With limited and expensive public transport what are they to do?

Second issue is; how is a flexible work force, hailed as the reason why the UK economy does better than average, meant to remain flexible if the cost of travelling increases exponentially?

Not wishing to get too political but if you saw a breakdown of where the money actually went you'd appreciate how little the services you list receive.

I just took a quick look at wikipedia. Shell made 4.49% profit last year - if that were a small business it'd be on thin ice and might be advised to wind up operations and try something else...

I'd love to set something like that up, wouldn't know where to start though. Driving to London would kind of defeat the purpose though :o:o:o. Maybe a slow run from Glasgow city centre along the M8 to Edinburgh city centre? Surely loads of haulage firms would be into this too.

Fixed a wee bit :p:p:p

On a side note I wonder how much Mr Eyebrows paid himself this year.
