I fancy GPS in my car. I don't need it, but it looks shiny.

Having scanned over ebay I'm torn between a pocket pc with GPS reciever - has the advantage of being colour and offering 3D maps, but possibly with a low contrast screen going by my previous experience with pocket pcs.
Or something like this. A garmin GPS 3, which looks pretty flashy and costs less.

Anyone had an experience with any of these, or got a good recommendation that doesn't cost £500+?

The problem with that garmin one on the ebay link is that it doesnt have any voice instructions , you have to keep looking at the screen.

costco are selling the Street polot 3's for about £550 ish.

I have a Garmin eMap. Handheld unit with basemaps; supports searches, finds petrol stations and hospitals, chinese take-aways etc. Slips in pocket, goes on handlebars, or car-mount. Also plugs straight into PC or Pocket PC and provides auto-routing, which is how I use it.

A decent transflective screened PocketPC like an iPaq 4150/1940 from http://www.expansys.com and a TomTom Bluetooth GPS package from http://www.ebuyer.com.

£270.45 for the Ipaq 4150
£163.71 for the TomTom3 pack with GB Maps and Bluetooth
--------
£434.16 for one of the sexiest and smallest PocketPCs with 3D wireless GPS!

You could look at this
Multimedia Pocket PC £ 269.00
Navigator, organiser, entertainer
The Pocket PC that makes your life a lot easier - because it's more than a just a practical pocket-sized office assistant. You can use it to navigate your way to any destination in the UK and Ireland, enjoy its multimedia capabilities and use it as a mobile appointments diary. And this Multimedia Pocket PC won't put you out of pocket!

if you searched hard on german ebay u might be able to pick up a cheap Comand unit. although its a risk whether it is fully working.... but if you took time to source the parts cheap/2nd hand u could fit command for under £500. fit it yourself as its easy

Just to let you know that the caraudiocentre.com are selling Blaupunkt Travel Pilot in dash CD/radio/nav for under £500 at the moment if this is of any use to you...

I had the same situation to. I already had a pocket pc 3870 so I got the 3450 Navman. Its got voice etc and its not bad. This means you can check emails on the move, calender etc. Low cost option I wish I could afford Command.

Cheers
Ian

I can fully recommend the Blaupunkt travelpilot and Caraudio are always good to deal with.

Had a look at the features and it seems very good value. How much would an additional new (non schizo - see my other thread on cd spasms) changer cost?

Anyone got a travelpilot - as good as they seem?

I have a Travelpilot DXR70, it is very good, it uses the same map discs as Command so is basically the same navigation system. The sound quality and build quality from Blaupunkt is always excellent.

You can attatch a 10 disc changer CDCA08 or a MP3 player.

CD changer is now the new CDCDA03 which is around £200
If anyone has got any problems with our e-mail on the site then e-mail me direct. [email protected]
DXR52 is available in black/red (DXR52A) or silver/blue/grey (DXR52T)

Slightly off thread - sorry! Jimmy where have you installed your nine speakers? Is there any room left for the dogs? :)
