Won't you affect the air intake by doing that then??

Depends on the engine I suppose but I've seen loads blown up by fitting mesh on air intakes, particularly on Subaru and the Eary Ford Cosworth cars.

That's part of the reason I want to upgrade to get better airflow while still looking stylish.. I would bother with mesh that's what an air filter is for

Yes, I will keep the squadrons of bugs & flying insects [about to launch themselves any day now] out of my radiator assembly. On facelift 124's it is very very difficult to clean out the radiator properly, gunge collects, cars overheat and things corrode. Also I don't like flies hanging around the front of the car eating the dead flies whenever I'm parked for more than 5 mins, their acid can’t be good for the paint & attracts cats to pee, Grrrrrr!!

I'm hoping I can make something that can be cleaned with a hose, or unclip it and clean or replace it with a clean one. RoA is 42%, 304 stainless steel. I've got some at 29% and 39% too, trial and error, need to keep the bugs out of the rad, it is going to be a balance...

So now I have decided to paint my stock grill to a gloss black colour like the one in the pic as I dont want to pay over £100 for a bit of plastic .
Going to sand it down with some wet and dry sandpaper, clean it off then spray it probably with halfords gloss black paint.
Then I will laquer it a few times to finish it off..

has anyone done this to their grill and are there any pics off diy painted grills on here at all???

I prefer the standard look and would buy a new grille if your previous one is chipped.

I just want a black grill not those silly headlights in the pic, i also want to keep the chrome mb star in my grill.

Yes my grill is chipped but it will sand out before I paint it.
If you have over £100 to spend on a piece of plastic then you have a nice life

I also like the standard look but i think the black grill does add a nice touch with the chrome star in centre

and please dont make out that I tailgate because I do not and I recently had an accident because some clown was tailgating me then tried to overtake as I was turning right putting me in hospital for a week. Thanks

Please tell me how your grille got chipped so bad it needs replacing if it's not from stone chips ? They only come from driving too close to the car in front.

Previous owner made these chips.. they are not so bad but I want the car immaculate.

FWIW my grill has a number of chips in it. Had a couple when I got it and picked up more during the winter from the gritting lorries. How do you propose painting yours.

I will sand it down with fine grit sp..spray it with gloss black plastic paint and finish with laquer .. going to take the mb star out to keep it chrome :bannana:
