Grumbling from what I think is the supercharger

Been doing a bit of googling and got a bit confused.

2004 on a 53 plate R170 200 SLK Kompressor

There seems to be a general impression that these superchargers engines can be a bit on the noisy side at tick over, especially when hot?

Some people talk about a clutch mechanism that spins the supercharger up at above 2000 rpm but I can't see this type of mechanism. Actually, to be honest I'm not really sure where the SC actually is.

There is also talk of the variable valve timing mechanism which is apparently in the same area also being noisy.

When the engine is revved, the plastic air intake structure physically distorts as though its being sucked inside out so I'm assuming that its doing something!

There is what appears to be another air intake on the right hand side with what looks to be a MAF sensor?

It goes very well, noise disappears ( or can't be heard over the engine ), no smoke, clean oil.

All comments / advice / corrections gratefully received :thumb:

Cheers

Mike

The same on mine. Olly at PCS and MB main dealer have both said that these engines are noisy and that the noise is normal for these engines.

If that's the pipe between the air filter & the supercharger, I think it would be a good idea to check the filter
