Hi Gang,

Have you ever had any GTG's at a track or airfield. I did this with the Lotus forum and it was a great day out.

We had a few driving instructors and a course set out - No real racing with each other more time trials and car control lessons.

Does anyone know how to get one of these type events going and would the group have any interest..? I would offer but would have no idea of where to start. I would however be happy to help out with anything that needs doing. (If I can).

What a fantastic idea. I would love to be involved somehow.

I would be delighted to attend dependant on location and timing etc :)
Good plan!

(ps As i am on service plus - doesn't matter if I steam my brakes!!)

Brands Hatch do evening events for groups but I dont know about cost.

One reason for suggesting this is I know my rear tyres will need replacing soon and probably front pads so I'd prefer to do it before..! I boiled the Lotus fluids and smoked the tyres (both of which were on there way out anyway) last time..!

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'll do what I can to organise. Perhaps Brands would be too expensive but I'm sure there must be a dissused airfiled somewhere.

GRAV - With your knowledge of Brands etc.. perhaps you may know someone I could talk to..?

I'll give these guys a ring tomorrow to see what they can offer. This is who we went with for the Lotus "Day out".

Would the group rather have just a blat round a track or, like the motosports guys offer, a few lessons on driving positions, some oversteer/understeer practice etc.. etc.. I can personally recomend this as you get to learn a lot about your cars capabilities rather than just straight line speed. You do get to have some fast runs as well with these.

I will see if I can get some prices on a "Group event" rather than turn up with other people there as well but let m eknow your thoughts.

I'll ask next time I'm up there (1st weekend in August now), but we had a gtg last year (maybe the year before:confused: ) at Bruntingthorpe proving ground.
It was a brilliant day out.
I'm sure quite a few people would be interested in doing it again.
Do a search for Bruntingthorpe on here.;)

I was about to book a morning or afternoon open-pit lane session at the Bedford Autodrome with my mate on the 28th July (£125) but he has pulled out on me. For those who don't know, this is the track where they run the Palmer Sport corporate track days, the track is a huge 3.6 miles long and with one the largest run-off areas you will find, there are no armco barriers to worry about too. I'm very tempted to book myself of this what do you all think?

I have a few contacts that may be able to help here - but neither will be particularly cheap!!

I got chatting to one of my instructors at Donnington (VXR event) and he does exactly what you describe. He tends to tag on to existing track days, and then supply a number of instructors. He might be a good person to talk to. If you do, then mention where we found out about him - it was only a week ago. Here's his website: http://www.alanblencoweracing.com/events_trackdays.htm

Also I got chatting to several of the Mercedes Experience guys and in another thread I mentioned that they are looking at possibilities for other stuff - not just Brooklands. The admin fiasco that was our January Brooklands visit came up in conversation too - and the guy said if we ever want to do something like it again, then he would be happy to help. If we gather our thoughts I would be happy to talk to him about it.

OK Folks - Spoke to MotorSports Events and they can offer a couple of options. The only downside is most of their days out are Fridays or Mondays which may not suit some.

I would recomend an "Acadamy Day" as I've been on this before and it is a real eye openner for car control and not just speeding round a track. Here is what they offer.

We operate our highly successful Driver Training Academy Days as well as some outstanding corporate driving days. The training is hugely entertaining and suitable for drivers of all levels. Topics covered include:
  • Seat position and steering control
  • Braking/Accelerating/Car Balance
  • Understeer/Oversteer
  • Awareness
  • Emergency Avoidance and Braking
  • Track Day Driving Etiquette
  • PLUS a Track Driving Session
The cost of an Acadamy day is £100 per person and to get an exclusive MB day we would need around 30 cars so this is probably not going to happen. If we get at least 10 MB's then we can group off by ourselves if we like.

They are going to get back to me with available dates and venues but suspect one near Oxford will be on offer.

More info can be seen here and look for the Acadamy days menu. (http://www.motorsport-events.com/)

Your thoughts..?

Finally bit the bullet and booked myself onto Bedford Autodrome morning track session on Sat 28th July and added my mate as an additional driver for the day . There's around 20 places left when I rang them today, if anyones interested in joining me you can book yourself online on link below. Hope to meet some of you there :D
