As the topic. New windscreen today, I got to see the invoice. Astounded.

For a BMW 520d with rain sensor and light sensor although I suspect that this does not change the cost...

The 211's was £650. The BMW is bigger IIRC so going for £750

£19.99 per side...

Must have a discount for the non-fitment of indicators.

Mr Autoglass reckoned my Vito windscreen was about £14 to them and it is bigger than the BMW one so £12 cash in hand plus £30 fitting so £42.

You get that when you front end someone, after following them too close as per the BMW way. Wings and headlight clusters are cheaper as they do not have the indicators.

Audi have recognised this front end collisision as a money spinner as it knows only too well its owners like to drive on peoples bumpers, so fit lots of extra lights that they fit to the bumper known as DLR's, this means they can make an extra £500 every time the car hits someone else

£967.49

Quite a lot more than I expected...

I bet the insurance company don't pay even half that figure.

Years a go my MIL had a Toyota Corolla and someone smashed the rear door quarter-light to break into the car.
The quote from one of the national windscreen companies was about £140 or so, which would have cost MIL the glass excess of £60.

FIL went to the Toyota dealer and bought the glass for £20, which he fitted in about 30 minutes.

I think they show you an inflated invoice to make "punters" feel they have got their moneys worth and also to ramp up the price if you go direct to them.

In my case I may yet end up saddled with the VAT element, so I am pretty sure this is genuine.

I do wonder though how much of a kick back they get for managing the claims process and whether in reality its a bung.

Ring some local fitting companies for a direct quote.

As I feared. Way too much for a windscreen.

Capitalism is evil.

How much do you think BMW pay?

At that price the manufacturer probably gives them to BMW and like printer ink makes their profit on 'consumables'.

Wow

And to think I shuddered when my BMW main dealer charged me £770 for fit one on my 335D last year. Turned out this was still cheaper than what Autoglass would have charged!!!

I have to pay for windscreens as a trade policy doesn't cover windscreens. My local fitter is often 70-80% cheaper than autoglass. The glass is only manufactured by a few companies and branded for autoglass, rac, etc. Same product, and a fitter that knows what he is doing at a much lower cost.
