You can spend silly money on a car and still have problems lurking round the corner, regardless of who has checked it.....I would rather pay less and have some spare cash to sort out what need s doing... or am i missing the point here ???

That's fair enough. Horses for courses I suppose. From my point of view though, when buying a used car, particulary a ten or more year old one, you should always buy the very best you can find. When viewing, it quickly becomes obvious which cars have been cared for, which have been cared for money-no-object, and which have been run on a budget.

My car was bought from Mercedes Salisbury (when they were Caffyns) and every single service has been carried out there. I'm not suggesting that a specialist is going to do a lesser job, but if you can afford to pay main dealer prices to look after the thing for all that time, then when they notify you of an impending problem, you're more likely to get it sorted sooner rather than later.

The first owner of my car said to me "It cost me £52,000, and it was my only luxury for ten years. I am pleased that it's gone to a good home."

Me too ;)

There is no point in buying a cheap coupe, say £1000-2000. If you want to run a car to the ground then its fine. If you buy it thinking you'll return it to its former glory, then forget about it.

The costs involved are alot more than it would be if you spent a bit more money finding a mint one. Remember paintwork, mechanicla work, interior, suspension etc. Cheap cars aren't worth the headache.

I bought my SEC with problems. I know i got it cheap, but the amount its costing me will be more than buying a mintish one. But for me, i like to know that everything is done properly, i know my car will be mint when i've finished with it. I doubt many other people would go to the lenght i am to restore it though, as its not really worth it.

Well done mate

(PS, never did find out if it was you in a CLK cabriolet on the Fulham Palace Rd the other week - thought I recognised the wheels, you were looking under the bonnet?)

It was me, the Air MAS sensor was playing up.
Just disconnected it and carried on, later found it was the pipe that had come off, doh!

shame with all that looking round under the bonnet he failed to realise the kompressor pipe next to the MAS had fallen off! (even though he disconnected the MAS sensor he failed to realise the pipe on top was dangling off!) :D

Lol, typical. Would have come out and said hi, but I was with people in the middle of lunch.

Car looked clean from what I could see

It really is a stonker.

Is it an early '94?

PJ

The car seems to attract more attention than my CLK and SL.

Its an mid '94.

I asked because your car includes option 859 "model update ii (с 01.01.1978)" - which is long before the W124's were launched
and mine has option 866 "Technical changes of modelling year 1995 (c 01.01.1994 no 19.10.1997)"

They may be unrelated. I have no idea what either means.

PJ

Probably to do with the twin airbags which was a '95 model change.

i saw a car very similar to akash's car on tooting high st yesterday, was on a L plate. exact kit and wheels in black, real nice.
