Anyone ever had one fitted by them.

Whilst picking up some oil I noticed they seem to have a pretty good deal on this at the moment and they charge £10 for fitting which seems good value.

What can they get wrong?

Halfords

I had a Blaupunkt DAB Woodstock fitted a few years ago, and they messed it right up....didn't fit the ariel and Also It was not fitted all the way in,but i think it all depends on who is working on that day as to fitting wise.

I saw a nice head unit there yesterday and I was tempted:)

Speak to your indie first and see what they can offer.

That looks good value, well as it uses the speed signal, they should not get it wrong, but do not quote me :).

It has a very good spec

Surely the worst they can do is not fit the speed control connection.

I've got a Bluespot (Casablanca?) in my coupe, and they didn't fit the speed sensor thing, so I don't have speed-sensitive volume.

It's not a problem for me.

PS: It looks like a nice unit, and being Blaupunkt, it's sort of OEM...

The speed signal is on pin 1 coloured green/ white most problems arrise when a radio is fitted without a speed signal and you get the ABS,EAS and BAS warnings up and no cruise

We had a unit fitted by Halford this week, no problems at all. Mrs BTB went in for a cheapie for her Audi to replace the JVC that had died ... ended up with a Kenwood that was on special offer, fitted for £89.99. They put it in while she waited.

Ta for the comments..

Might just pop down there tomorrow first thing..

Popped down first thing, and found Halfords closed till 10am....

So filled the tank and then got the car washed, popped back at 10am and the sale assistant tried to persuade me to buy a Sony - I told him no as its not German... then was told fitter chap won't be in till 11..

Return home, have coffee, go back for 11 and the friendly assistant is there, punches in the car details, apparently I don't need any extra bits - great, comes out with the stereo, ipod lead and an adapter and the fitter. I suggest we have a look at the car before he takes my money, just in case..

Troop out to the car, fitter and assistant pull on the stereo, various bits of trim, open and shut the glove box a few times, mutter a bit.... 'its bolted in, thats a dash out job'.

I ask if they will still fit it for £9.99 - no problem, come back let me take the order and come back Tuesday.

I make my excuses and leave. :(

There are lots of different tools for removing radios - I have quite a collection now. Once the stereo's out you need to remove the cage and replace it with the one that came with the stereo. You then need to check and see if there's an ISO plug for the stereo. If there's not you need an ISO plug with flying leads, some blue butt connectors, wire strippers and a crimp tool

Normally you'll find all kinds of nastiness in the existing wiring. It's worth tidying it all up properly

If you need to run in an iPod cable, etc, the left hand carpet panel for the centre console is removable and that gives some access to the back of the stereo

If you don't have the tools to remove the stereo, pop down to your local car hifi shop and ask nicely. They may help out. The new stereo should come with the appropriate tools
