Not only are we the greatest county in the land, we are very humble people and it was this that helped us to finish twelfth in the Olympic medals table if we'd have been classed as our own country.

Here's a bit of help for those that don't understand how us wonderful folk of Yorkshire speak;

Went up to York a few months ago - what a lovely town.
On the way, Mrs Ted said "Where exactly is York then? Is it in Lancashire?"

Happy Yorkshire day! Now shut tha cake'ole , put wood i't oil and earn some brass.

Two questions Lee if I may ask:

Why the 1st of August?
and
What's on the menu?

Why the 1st of August?
The choice of 1 August for Yorkshire day is based on events that occurred in the Seven Years War, which was fought in Europe, India and North America between 1756 and 1763. On 1 August, 1759, a combined force of 41,000 British, Hanoverian and Prussian troops defeated a 51,000-strong French army at the battle of Minden in what is now Germany. After the battle, the British soldiers picked white roses1 and wore them as a tribute to their fallen comrades. Since that day, a number of Yorkshire-based regiments have worn white roses on 1 August to commemorate the events of 1759 and all those from Yorkshire who have fallen in battle since.

What's on the menu?

A slice or two of Wensleydale, a big helping of toad in the hole finished off with a bit of Parkin cake, all washed down with a pint of Johns.

Ah yes the home of Fred Trueman,Geoff Boycott and the Great Dickie Bird.My Father was born in Sheffield and I bought my SL there last year.Sean Bean supports The Blades as I do and The Owls.Yorkshire Pudding mouth watering delicacy.Long live the white rose county.

Having lived in the West Midlands, the East Midlands, Buckinghamshire ,France and now for the last 11 years the West Riding of Yorkshire, in my opinion the people of Yorkshire are the nicest, the friendliest and the most honest. They also have the best scenery.

Thanks for that Lee, you're never too old to learn.

I'd be up for the Wensleydale and Toad-in-the Hole ( proper butcher made sausages of course) but I'll need educating about the Parkin Cake.
The Johns is probably the most popular beer up here now with all the pubs and clubs serving it despite the Brewery's antics over the old bottle of Dog.

Enjoy your feast

It's more of a grunting than actually talking. At least that's what my teenage sons do

Where were we and who were we with?

Who was she with?

She wasn't, was she?

I'm really tired now.

That's not Essex, that's English.

Google translate really has improved!
