Has my C 63 been set up incorrectly?

Car
C63 AMG, SLK 55 AMG, CLK 320, Mitsubishi L200, Golf TDI, Renault 5GT Turbo.
Had my C63 AMG for a year now purchased new, I have done 10000 miles exactly when it had its first service at The dealership where I bought it ( its my 3rd new car from them in 7 years just mention that )
So I get a phone call all my tyres are illegal. I query this and it becomes 2 tyres, the rear ones.

I ask for the car to be returned so I can get a second opinion and my usual tyre specialist i used for 20 years or more identifies ware on the tyre where the wall meets the tread inside edge so the shoulder then. It's split and the chord is showing through on the rears and the fronts also showing ware on the inside shoulders but less of it , shiny rubber so no scrub marks

He thinks its the set up on the suspension is set up wrong and the tyre is tracking on the shoulder

Another AMG specialist thinks its either the same thing or defective tyres

The merc garage ( where I purchased it ) say its my driving, saying that they were just going to sell me four tyres in any case and shaft me.

I genuinely don't drive the car too hard ( I have to be honest here I know that to get the best advice )

The wheels are 19 inch and the tyres are Mercedes original yokohamas

I've decided to book the car into another dealership for investigation but I could seriously do with some advice/ help from anyone who knows any issue

Can anyone help please?

Get the dealer to check the geometry, or try Wheels in Motion.

No point speculating best find out for sure?

The rest of the tread is in good condition about 5 to 7 mm and even across the plane of the tread

Wow, more like driving on the shoulder with that much tread left everywhere else... Get it checked, if it's new and under warranty, take it back to the dealer.

There are plenty of threads about geometry on these cars - do a search. They appear to be set up with lots of camber so wear the inside of the tyre

As above 10k on rears is pretty good, I only managed 6-7k. If you think something is wrong with the car then no other option other than get the geometry checked. Will be a hard one to prove the car was wrong from the start as they are prone on these things to argue lot holes but if you don't try you won't get :)

Point noted, ultimately I don't want my car to run on the shoulder of the tyres ...it's dangerous...high speed blow out coming right up...not with my family in it

I had factory Yokohama tyres on mine and the rears were shot in around 6000miles. They are a pretty soft tyre.

I had to change the fonts due to a sidewall cut and they showed some strange wear characteristics. I had the geometry checked and all was OK, I have since got through a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres which did not show the same issue.

My Yokos, notice he darker section on the iner edge:

I put it down to the tyres.

I Agree its sounds like something is out for the odd wear, whats the tyre preasure like?

However 10,000 miles on the rear tyres of a car like that sounds very good?

I remember years ago with a Peugeot 205Gti getting 5000 to 6000 out of some fronts, and that had no where near the vroom.

I used to get 7500 miles out of the P zero on the SLK 55AMG and that was lite on the back end, it isn't the mileage ware in question, its where the ware is taking place , on the shoulder, the actual tread is fine, is should not be wearing on the shoulder

Suggest you get your alignment checked!
Not as simple on this car as people may suggest make sure you go somewhere they understand Mercedes. The first question should be to ask if the have a 'Romess' gauge?
If they do, they clearly understand the question

But why would they need one?

This car is on fixed steel springs and the ride height is is irrelevant as long as the geometry can be set correctly.

The o/p's fault looks like too much camber.

One good reason to use a Hunter is that it provides a user-readable "Before" printout for consultation and an "After" printout once the work is done

The printout is an excellent tool to explain the various adjustments and the interactions between them

I had a similar problem, and as above I normally go to a company that uses a hunter system and one that is well versed in mercs, elite tyres in Essex, also switched to bridgestones MO, previously had pzeros and continentals these normally have been great on my other cars but not this one, tyres did not last 5 mins, since switching to bridgestones all is well, and puts the power down very well, most rear wheel performance cars suffer from this camber problem, getting it checked and finding a tyre that works well certainly helps
