Has my C 63 been set up incorrectly?

Any MB approved alignment will do the job (and some that aren't )
It's the bloke using it that matters

If you are not sure who to go to maybe I can point you in the right direction?
Let me know which part of the country you're in?

Yes thanks for that info pleassy I'm over near Warrington . I have booked it in at Warrington merc next week but let's see what they are prepared to do under the warranty. Failing that il get the job done outside the warranty conditions. All I want is peace of mind mate... Oh and some tyres . Would Michelin be the way to go do you think?

I've got enough info to make an informed decision at least from this thread thanks for all of you posts

Given your location i would try Ninemeister (behind speedkarting off slutchers lane) very well respected for geo set up..

I'll ask a man who knows Monday ( I'm not an expert in tyres but if they are not fitted OEM there may be a reason other than cost?) A Merc dealer should certainly have the knowledge AND the equipment. Make sure they give you a before and after printout . And no flannel about being 'within tolerance' tell them you want it 'well within tolerance'
Good luck!

Just thought I would post an update, it's the least I could do to thank you all for your posts.

Ok I need to change all 4 tyres 2 are illegal and 2 are worn all on the inside shoulder so I need the tyres, I'm ok with that I get all four fitted for £170.00 each plus vat then I need to pay £ 256.00 inc vat for wheel alignment, this cannot be done until tyres are changed as the old ones will give a false reading due to shoulder of tyre wall being weakened with excessive ware.

it's been suggested there may be nothing wrong with alignment as the tyre shows even ware across the whole of the tread apart from the shoulder, uneven ware would suggest incorrect or miss aligned tracking, they would also expect this damage to be caused by normal driving but on pothole infested highways( there are a few of them here) also kerb ing and impact to wheel would put this out if alignment. So there you have it. A car with a warranty and 3 years servicing attached to it costing the best part of a grand just through driving 10,000 miles pretty carefully at that

Oh and that would reoccur each10000 miles so an £825 quid bill per year, like it or not.

That seems to be pretty cheap for C63 ongoing tyre costs. You may be able to reduce wear on the inner tyre by aligning the car with less camber - ie outside of MB specs - to do that I'd look for an alignment place with experience of these cars

Lots of late BMWs eat tyres and some BMW runflats are £300-plus each. Porsche Cayenne turbos are said to get 4000 miles out of rear tyres - I dread to think what they cost

I suppose it's the cost of using a super-saloon as an everyday car

Hi Yozzer,

Before you agree to pay this price for the alignment, I would ask a couple of questions;

Did you have a print out of what it was when you purchased the vehicle? It may have been out of spec then?

Do they charge for the adjustments they need to make? In all probability some of your adjustments are in spec?

Most companies do this, and depending on the system they use? If it is a Hunter or John Bean 3D it takes 5 mins to get the readings (check out 'worlds fastest wheel alignment' on U-Tube)

They will have a Romess gauge so you can add some time for that however ....just check what you are paying for

From my professional point of view We keep telling dealers they can earn a shed load of money from wheel alignment!
You may want to bargain a bit
Good luck

Pleassy

Shocked by the £256 price.

I go to Nottingham Wheel Alignment and it costs £40 to get laser alignment, same as a dealer but they guys have more experience.

Also they don't need doing every time the tyres are changed, but I try and get mine done every year due to the many pot holes and bumps in our roads.

Has anyone got the recommended alignment settings with reduced rear toe to increase longevity from the rears?

Cheers pleassy il check my docs first, I did check the spec once as I discovered the wrong colour seats were fitted, hence the 3 years from servicing for firgivness for the balls up

I guess the point I'm making is that if they can't show the alignment was in spec when you bought the car it may be a pre existing fault!

Their machine should have a data base, even with no hard copy they should have a record, if not why not?
Cheers

Good arrow pleassy il be sure to ask

You actually need toe-in to reduce wear on the inside edge - as you accelerate the tendency is for toe in to reduce; start neutral and it goes toe out and the scrub starts.

Mine were terrible on the inside edge - it's going in next week to be sorted properly before the new tyres go the same way...

very remenicant of mine that photo ian, heavy ware and the chord showing through on the inside edge

Thanks... i might get them laser re-aligned and ask them to set to the max recommended toe in?

Had a root and found this document, it's tyre and wheel insurance but mainly gap insurance.
Thought the tyre and wheel might come in handy with the tyre wall being shot at and sufficient even tread across the plane of the tyre.
Must be worth a stab at least?
