Have the wheels come off for Tesla?

Thought I'd get it in before an EV hater did. 🙂👍
I don't think many people are EV haters, just folk who don't want one and prefer ICE cars for various reasons.
Biggest problem is the EV owners who want to ram it down everyones throats that EV's are the best and everyone else is wrong.
A bit like those who stop smoking and then become the biggest anti smoking fan boys you could ever meet.

Don't agree at all, you only have to read some of the stupid comments on hear about EVs to know that's not true. If you don't like EVs fair enough no problem, just don't talk shite about them, get on with enjoying your ICE motor which are also great cars.
Of course EV owners are gonna defend EVs, when they read/watch the utter garbage that's being spouted. 🙂👍

I think you just proved my point?

Well the problem is when the EV advocates become the EV fanbois who figure anybody who doesn't see the golden glow of their perspective is talking 'garbage' or brown smelly stuff.

There is a problem. EVs are actually a 'Good Thing' but if you don't have the money to buy a nice one or the usage pattern that suits a cheaper one they are not necessarily a happy place. Some people take a long trip and happily take long stops - others do not. Some people have convenient driveway or workplace charging facilities - some do not. If some of the more strident advocates actually took some note that not everybody has their situational advantages or particular approach to motoring and that EVs are not always a good then discussions might be less polarised.

(Against that there is probably a group of people who don't realise that EVS would be a good fit .... but the type of advocacy we see doesn't always promote well to those who might benefit but are hesitant).

So it comes down to the advocates telling those who disagree with them to stop talking brown stuff. Maybe some of the advocates cannot actually smell their own output - or maybe their olfactory make mistakes when judging the output of others.

My observation of discussions in the forum over the years is that those making the accusation that others are talking garbage or sh*te (or in the past using terms like 'chatting brown') are the ones with a problem. Not those they try to diminish.

Well, yes, actually.

Innovators have no tech god right to perpetual success.

The question for Tesla - AND the German car industry - is how will they address the future?

At first glance, it’s “Vorsprung durch Technik” that looks the greater risk

Yes, EV's are crazy expensive aren't they?

Like this one. Nominal 240 mile range but call it 200.

It's tough for for the half of this country that averages less than 160 miles a week

It's a bit like "the internet." " The idea sounds great but why would anyone need it in their own home?"

Why do you always have to go and spoil things with common sense? ;)

Interesting you chose the Nissan Leaf as an example of how inexpensive EV's can be. All the reviews I've seen all agree that is one EV not worth buying. After 5 years the battery range can be less than 80 miles which doesn't fit with your example of cheap EV ownership.

Nope. You’re misreading reviews of the earlier 2014 onward cars, which had half the range of the second generation car that i put up there. No different to the restricted range on the early MINIs and e-Golfs, which at £7k are still useful as local town runabouts

The first ones only had 60 mile range when new....

As always, it depends how the average of almost 700 miles a month is done. Lots of short trips (local commuting etc.), no problem. Fewer long trips (leisure use only), maybe not so convenient ... particularly if that's your only car.

Weren’t you the one who said your son bought an EV and had to apparently move house because of it? He has free charging at work or something like that, but as he does 200-300 miles every weekend whilst never driving past a charger there’s no option bar moving home… Then when people questioned that you never bothered replying? 👀

Those are the kind of statements that people feel the need to reply to. ;)

EDIT: Ah yes it’s here: Advice regarding driving to France and Switzerland | Driving/Incidents/Roadrage

For sure. It’s typical second car, station shuttle, grandma’s motor, student wagon territory.

Buy without diesel pollution, maintenance costs, reliability issues and Road fund licence costs.

And just a fraction of the fuel cost.

You forgot Hayes, Novell, Netscape, Kodak, and Polaroid.

But have the wheels come off for Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, or Google? No, not yet anyway. These 5 Tech Giants are still going strong.

Some make it, some don't. But it's impossible to predict the future by knowing in advance which is which (if anyone could, they'd be billionaires).

Tesla might become the 6th Tech Giant, or they may disappear altogether. Only time will tell.
