Honda & Nissan to Merge

Didn't Nissan partner with Alfa Romeo at one point ? I also seem to recall Honda partnering with British Leyland at one point .
Alfa Arna which was a Nissan Cherry.

I think the Rover 400 and the 600 were Hondas underneath. My dad had a 600 which was actually a decent car.

I inherited a C reg Nissan Cherry when I came back from some Greek travels in the mid 90’s. I used it for work which it did very well and I couldn’t actually kill it.

400s we're a right old Heinz 57 Varieties car; some used Peugeot gearboxes as well as a mix of Honda and Rover engines.

Interesting hearing peoples opinions on Nissan. "Lacking direction" is an odd way to describe the UK's biggest volume car producer for the last quarter of a century. Rather reminds me of the (unjustified?) bad mouthing indigenous UK car makers like BL were on the receiving end of thanks to Clarkson et al. Funny that Clarkson has now come full circle describing new cars as "all s**t now" :p

It's all about innovation, aka "where's your next amazing car coming from".

Car manufacturers can sell massive volumes of their current model, and still be 'dead man walking' if they don't have a great car (or two) in the pipeline. 'More of the same' just doesn't cut it.

Rover post-BMW was dead-man-walking while it was still selling the 75. LDV was dead-man-walking while it was churning out large volumes of its vans. They simply lacked innovation, and had no 'next great car' in the works.

You would be amazed at how little the average member of the car buying public knows about brands, brand images, and current models - let alone future models. How else do you explain how so many sales executives can get away with being so ignorant of the features of their products?

I think the big difference is the CCP.
Neither the Japanese nor the Koreans had World Domination as an overall objective. The CCP does.
Yes, just like Germany really.

Copying America before it.

Obviously World Domination never crossed the mind of the British

And the root of the Industrial Revolution's success? Science, and the scientific discoveries. From Newton to Darwin.
Probably 75% of the industrial revolution was due to Scottish inventions, not going to list them all, you can look them up yourselves!

OK, I couldn't resist.................................... List of Scottish inventions and discoveries - Wikipedia

In my 60 odd years, the only battered mars bar I've ever witnessed being asked for, was by English tourists!
A Pizza crunch I've never had either.

But you had haggis, right?

I rest my case.

I think you need to colour in the Malvinas. It looks like you left them out...
