Have they fitted the wrong ones!!!

I think they were referring to the ' Treadwear 270 / Traction A / Temperature A ' type marking...

I'm very interested what brand of tyres are they.

The change of tyre size is not the major problem here, the major problem is what is the brand of the tyres and what is the speed ratings.

On a car tyres are the last thing I would skimp on. There are the only thing that between life and death.

Yes the size is a problem as it is the incorrect size for his car and the staggered alloys he has.

I'd be interested in the name of the tyre supplier since OP is in Hertfordshire. Nice to know who to avoid.....

Yes the alloys are staggered, the front tyres will be slightly balloon, 10mm wider than the alloy, the back will be stretched 10mm less.

A lot of time tyre manufactures discontinue some tyre sizes and left you with a decision the go wider or narrower. Tyres can go a range of alloy width without problems +/- 1 inch.

Now if you can feel the 10mm difference of the tyres, than you probably driving the car very hard. If there is any change of handling balance in this case, than it will be a little bit more front end bit.

I dont think that you will have a problem, but you may need to tell your insurance company.
Hi,, I spoke to the insurance company and the are totaly okay with tyre size change, they were more concerned if I as to change wheels.
So I thought I'd do some more research.

the difference between 225/45 and 235/45 is in the width not the height, so on full lock they would certainly be closer to body work, the increase is not to the height/diametre, I wish I'd seen how close the original fronts were, but then I did not expect to have seen/known this :-/

I was wrong with my information in my quote and appreciate the in depth knowledge from other members :thumb::thumb:

sorry for late reply, so much to deal with since last Friday,
Mine is a C220 cdi 05 reg and all your info is the same for mine.
I am still dealing with the tyre issue and will update soon

yes i did and fully appreciate your information

Fair enough. I have never heard that expression used for tyres. what make did they supply?
ps I would seriously think of changing your garage after this.

Sorrry if I have posted quick reply instead of quote replies,,still learning with forum operations,,,,

The tyres are Neuton NT5000
I have read some tyre reviews on these and I will post a link shortly

I may have made a mess of all replies and thank-yous :o

So,,the story so far,,
I got some reviews on these tyres at Neuton NT5000 | the Neuton NT5000 reviewed and rated | the online tyre guide

The feedback from them is very good for a "budget tyre" my main concerns were the size and with all the input from the posts on this thread I decided to go for the jugular, politely of course.

With some delay I achieved a resolution to my problem, tyres replaced with Uniroyals at the original staggered sizes 245 and 225 etc correct speed and load ratings at NO extra cost, an apology from the garage and an assurance he won't be using the tyre company again as it has left him out of pocket, he researched the tyres and sizes and agreed standardizing the tyres was not an option with the staggered size rims and clearance available, especially on full lock but the tyre company would not agree and would not shoulder some of the loss.

So, I'm a much happier chap and would like to thank you all for your help.

These were the tyres

Excellent result :thumb:

Here's a little background I think you made the right decision to change- Made in Indonesia for a Singapore distributor. http://neutontyre.com.sg/?newsrooms=yhi-makes-tyre-for-entry-level-segment

Their website contains a newspaper clip from 2007:

Anyway, it's all water under the bridge now...

Great result, pleased for you.

Have to admit though, with a sales team looking like that I could probably be persuaded to buy them :)
