Hi,
calling all 129 owners! Do you have a proper passenger glove box on the passenger side of the car or do you have an airbag ? I ask only because the TIS manual that I have shows a real box but I dont seem to have one.
Any thoughts?

Regards,

Peter

Lots of older models had optional passenger airbags and those without them had a huge glovebox. Even if you didn't have the option of NOT specifying the passenger airbag you could retrofit the dashboard pieces and have the airbag removed and disabled via diagnostics. Steve (MBenzNL) did this when he replaced the dashboard in his car from the factory blue one to a grey one to match the other interior pieces.

Here is the pathetic w202 glovebox:

Lol, classic :D :D

:bannana: :)

besides I heard when airbags go off they can damage the interior! I hope any passenger of mine would have the decency to eject out of the roof rather than damage a mint interior!

The good thing with our older design cars is that if the airbag does deploy it does not need a complete new dashboard.

Yes, just remember to duck when the detachable panel comes off! :)

I think if my airbags go off I will have other more pressing worries :D

Very true!!!

Probably the bit of trim pressing against ur face!!

Airbags are one of those things that you are happy to pay for but hope to never have to use.

No glovebox on my 98'S R129.
But I do have some nice side bins with lids which shut like mousetraps.
I believe this is due to the side air bags.

Cool :) Not just me then :) I had seen a few cars that had them and I was starting to worry that I had more than just a slightly dodgy centre bin :)

Look after those side bins, they cost a fortune to replace because you need new door trim to do it! IIRC Mark 300SL repaired his with araldite or something ;)

I had my door trims off the weekend because my speakers suck, on the new door cards they are a seperate part and are screwed onto the card.

I remember a chap from Holand did a complete overhall of his SL and said that he got a alot of the stuff from Germany... This might nt be such a bad idea for the trim items...

Or you could put the navigation unit in there...
