Hi , I have a '99 W210 (pre-facelift) Classic, with the standard mirrors but would like to change them for the heated type. Is this a direct swap? i.e. is the loom pre-wired for the elements .

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanx.

Hmm. You sure they are not already heated? I thought heated mirrors were standard.

I would have thought they were heated as well on a 1999 model!
Have a look in the HOWTO's and strip yours down and look for the wiring to the glass for a definate answer.

Same here, I thought if you have remote mirrors, they are heated.

I dont think they are on the Classic.

Only electric folding and auto tinting mirrors are folding I believe.

I just scanned through the EPC using the E250D (only available pre-facelift) and I find no mention of heated mirrors at all.

The option codes to look out for are:

506: outside rear view mirror, left and right, heated (right electrically adjustable), L.H.D.
507: outside rear view mirror, left and right, heated (left electrically adjustable), R.H.D.
508: heated rear view mirrors, left and right

If those codes are in your service book then you definitely have them. I just ran my own car through the EPC and the datacard has no heated mirrors listed, but it definitely has them so maybe they're simply not listed any more because they're standard on all models regardless of trim spec.

EDIT:

I just put a pre-facelift w210 E55 AMG into the EPC and checked the mirror glass, there are 13 different mirror glasses for one side mirror, none of them mention heating as an option, I can only assume that either NO w210s have heated mirrors or ALL w210s have it :)

2nd EDIT:

I just checked the mirror glass options, here they are:

249: automatically dipping inside rear view mirror
623: Gulf States version
625: Australia version
835: additional parts for South Korea vehicle version

no mention of heating on the mirror glass.

I checked my hand book, and surprisingly there is no mention of heating either.

Auto dimming drivers mirror, folding mirror, remote operation of mirror, position memory, heated rear window, but no heated mirrors!

Stick the heated rear screen on and see if the mirror glass gets warm

i have pulled apart a few pre facelift 210 mirrors and found them all to be heated! (square 2 pin plug at the back of the mirror)

Ive sold absolutely stacks of these mirrors and all are heated...

Hi guys,
I do have heated mirrors after all ,but they seem weak at their job of demisting the glass ,the heat give off is barely noticeable to the touch when compared to other cars ,maybe it's just a case of replacing them.

Thanks to all for their input
