Hello all.

I collected my first Mercedes (MB? Benz? Merc? don't know what most people call them) yesterday from the main dealer in Leicester. I'm really pleased with the car and I feel like I've made the right car choice this time.
I'm planning to keep this car for at least 3 years and figured joining a forum would allow me to get the most from my precious new motor through it's time with me.

The car is 2001 (W203?) C32 AMG estate 36k (with COMAND sat nav)

Has anyone got essential advice for a newbie like me?

Buy shares in BP! AMG's are great but drive it like it was meant to be driven and you'll always be up the filling station... I know I am.

Just kidding.. enjoy the Merc ;)

Cheers,

Gaz

Hi Gaz
The fuel gauge does seem to slip down rather quickly, but I (sort of) knew what I was letting myself in for. Petrol pump is being installed at home soon.:D
Cheers

Nice choice Sir, and welcome to the fold.

Mine has been to the dealer a few times. There are some common problems to look out for, but don't them trouble you. If it was from an MB main-dealer your warranty should cover it no problem.

Headrest motor (bizarrely only the drivers side) can go bump, and the air injection relay, air injection pump, and intercooler pump are prone to failure. Come across several owners that have reported rattles from the speaker trim rattle too.

Finally there is a bug that seems to trouble a large number of owners that is without resolution as far as I'm aware. Rough idle for just 10 seconds at about 2 minutes after a cold start.

Some useful C32 related forums:

Also the ECU reset is definitely worth doing occasionally. Maybe you're dealer did this before you bought it, so if you notice little difference try again in a few months. You will then!!

Thanks for the pointers, Mr Dazzler.
I'll be sure to keep an eye out for these potential problems.
Cheers,
Matthew
