mercedes 230 fintail
Hi, just joined the forum today though I've had my Mercedes for nearly 2 years.

I'm from the Northamptonshire/Warickshire borders and I own a 1965 Mercedes 230 Fintail (which needs a little tidying)

Regards,

Graeme

Hi there and welcome.Nice classicc you`ve got there

Hi & welcome, that i like !

I'm glad you all like my car. It has a few issues around the door bottoms, and with cold starting, but it runs, its MOT'd and most of all, it is a lot of FUN!!

Love those! Remind me of 60s TV programs like Man from Uncle and Mission Impossible where you often saw them riding around! Nice nostalgia! :)

Welcome. :)

Nice motor.

Fintails.. They always remind me of The Mafia.

Lovely Fintail - want to pick your brains a little if I can

Hi Graeme, you fintail looks lovely! I've just bought a 1965 W111 230s and love the car, easy to drive, great ride, feels very modern in lots of ways. I have a couple of issues with starting n the carbs, and also rotten door bottoms but I'm working my way throught the car slowly. Any advice or suggestions for parts suppliers would be really welcome!!

Cheers,

Roger

Obviously parts for this will be few,one thing i would suggest is that you watch E-Bay, & there is a system on there where you request them to tell you everytime anyone puts 'fintail parts' up for sale. I use that system a quite a lot, saves a lot of time trawling.

Parts

Sure, good advice and I will set up a track search. It's funny, there are specialists with parts coming out of their ears (or somewhere anyway) for the Citroen DS and also for the Rover but few for the Merc that I can track down so far. The possible answer for that could be that the Merc is so well built, it doesn't go wrong as often?

Certainly on mine, although it has body rot in the doors and a fuel starvation prob, every single thing, the clock, the radio, every catch switch and knob, works as it should, every time.

45 years old, never been restored, stood outside for years and it's condition is proof of the amazing original design and engineering. No wonder they cost more than twice the price of a Jaguar at the time!
