Hi people am pretty new to this so go easy while I find my way around. As usual I wont be the first to open a new thread with a problem so I'll try to pick some brains if thats ok. Well here goes... I bought a 2004 C220 CDI in june and its been running like a clock. It's just done 80,000 so its average mileage. Today I came across my first problem which is loss of power and it's pretty flat and useless to overtake anything. Anyway I now have a warning and a spanner symbol and below that it says Exh,filter Carry out service in 30 miles. Thats really all it's telling me. Has anybody had this problem and what is the remedy? Many thanks guys and as I say I'm new to forums and to MB. Hope you can help.

Welcome to the forum Ray.

First port of call would be the MAF.
Thanks SPX is this an easy to do jobby or into a garage? Also I'll get a Diagnostics test done tomorrow will this tell me more?

Hi guys. Had a diagnostics check done this morning and it's coming up as DPF full. Can it be cleaned or does it need replacing. Be thankful for any sound ideas. The EML is now on and we're in limp home mode. :-(

I've now been told by an indie machanic with a STAR that he can force a regen to see if that'll solve the problem. Says its 50/50 so might be best I try that first before I go ordering a new DPF especially as he'll only charge me £30 to do it. Anyone have an opinion on a forced regen?

Hi im new here too, definatley worth a try with the regeneration........

if the cars being used to short runs the DPF can get clogged up so have that done and hope it solves your problem......

Thanks Blue Stormer and yes the car is only used mostly on short journeys of say 20 mile round trips and sometimes not even that tbh. Like most I drive to work and thats a 6 mile trip then the car is parked up for 12 hours before a 6 mile trip back home again. You just confirmed exactly what the machanic told me yesterday so thanks again :thumb: Oh and welcome to the site too btw :)

Hi and welcome.
The usual dpf problem.. always a pain.
Some Vehicles mostly later ones have to have a software release code from MB to enable regeneration.
Very unlikely that you should have to replaceable dpf box !
Definitely try the £30 option first!

Thank you Gruff. Tried the £30 regen at a friends garage. Failed twice to clear the problem so I thought that's it then either remove the DPF or have a new one fitted. As I walked in to talk to him about my options he said he was just going to try one more time to make sure and hey presto it worked. He told me to get it on the motorway more often because the short journeys I do are not enough for the car to regen itself. The car is now running like a clock again and I'll be much more aware in future. Thank's for the advice guys :thumb:
