1981 Mercedes 200 Auto
Hi all, just introducing myself before asking for advice and guidance.

Here is my 'new' 1981 Mercedes 200 auto which I bought last week. I've spent a few hours with t-cut and wax trying to bring her back to life but will need some more elbow grease.

I've just discovered these cars and think they offer huge value for money compared to some classics.

This one is in Signal Red which I think, in my humble opinion, is rather stylish. Hope you like her and i'll get some more pictures taken very soon.

All the best, Chris

Excellent choice in a classic. They're easy to care for and don't need a lot of attention. They don't feel archaic. It's easy to forget you're driving something that's thirty years old.

Your car looks great! What's the interior like? Mileage? What plans do you have for it?

Welcome to the forum, by the way. :)

Hello and welcome. Great looking car and I hope you get many years of pleasure from such a classic motor.

Sorry, making a bit of a mess of this....1st time doing this sort of thing from a laptop. Anyway, this is her after a good deal more t-cutting and waxing.

Now for a question or two. I'm looking for a Haynes type manual, but can only find ones for the 250s and 280s and the diesel versions? Also, as you can see, the nearside front spoiler area has rusted so is the best place to look for this sort of thing and the chrome/rubber trim pieces etc on Ebay?

Chris

a warm welcome from me and your car looks great !

Welcome, greatcars - looks like a classic but they last forever

What a nice example of an older car. I'll wager that there'll be few modern MBs that look that good in 30 years time!

Hello
Welcome to the Forum
Lovely Classic Merc :thumb:

The car is looking great well done with all that elbow grease. Check out the detailing threads for an easier way to keep on top of the bodywork. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy! :D

Welcome! Lovely looking car! Great, practical classic, love it!

Thank you for your nice comments.

My everyday car at the moment is a Fiat Panda so you can imagine the Mercedes-Benz, (I like saying that) felt rather different, and a bit daunting at first with the long bonnet to see over.

In answer to a couple of earlier questions, the interior is in really great condition and the engine and gearbox seem fine (125,000 miles)

Although 'rolling restoration' makes it sound a bit rough, it has just a few little things that need fixing to make it a real beauty. For example the missing bit of trim just behind the front wheel on the nearside really needs addressing (any clues where to go for this?) and the rusty hole on the front spoiler in the same area needs fixing or replacing.

I'm looking forward to getting these little things sorted and will enjoy autojumbles more now with the search for better replacement parts.

What I've enjoyed most about this car is 'wafting' about; no point in rushing. Find an excuse to go out, and waft there and back.

I was wafting today when I passed a tasty olive green W123. I was very envious of the colour as it wafted past, I must admit.

She's now parked outside my house on the road and I really want to spend some more time just looking around her and touching her. My neighbours would think i'm wierd, though. I'll just pull the curtains back a bit.

Welcome aboard. Lovely old car you have :D

Btw, If your questions don't get answered eventually, try putting them in a separate thread. People might just be reading your first post and then posting a "welcome" reply. Just a thought.

... and a bit daunting at first with the long bonnet to see over.

This is one of the things I like most about my car. Call me a freak, but it reminds me of when I was very young and had an Austin A40 pedal car, which also had a long bonnet. I used to love driving that thing

The star on the end makes it even better ;)
