Hi all

Not sure if this is the right section but i have a quite a big problem..
I had my W202 shipped overseas and it arrived into the port this morning..
The problem is the battery seems to be either flat or been disconnected (not sure which?) so the problem i have is that we weren't able to open the boot either with the fob, the switch in the car or the manual key in the fob..

How else can i access the boot to get to the battery?? Any help would be appreciated :)

(Anyway I've spent the best part of 4 hrs in the port trying to make sure they dont damage the car in the process of moving off the shipping vessel to the wharf! these guys are so rough and crazy!)

Did you say the metal key insert dosn't work in the boot lock?
It might be that it's crudded up over the years.

The general advice is to spray some penetrating fluid in the lock (WD40 etc.) and that will hopefully free it up.

I remember seeing a 'how to' for a W208, for applying power to a terminal in the passanger footwell.
The W202 might be similar.

Hopefully, someone else will be able to confirm.

If you have access into the car itself , and are therefore able to open the bonnet , you should be able to access the main battery terminal going to the starter motor ( this is the thick wire and should be a direct connection to the battery positive terminal ) - apply power to this terminal and any ground point under the bonnet and you should be able to charge the battery / start the car .

With access to the interior , you can even apply a trickle charger to the cigarette lighter with the ignition turned on and should get enough to open the boot and access the battery itself .

Thankfully i have access to the car so I can open the bonnet..
Is the relay point near the windscreen washer bottle?

I'll have to take a look when i get back to the port on monday

Never having had a W202 , I don't know where the screenwash is , but I doubt it is anywhere near the starter motor .

The starter is usually on the right hand side of the engine , low down and towards the rear end , where the gearbox bellhousing joins the back end of the engine . You want the thickest wire going onto the starter solenoid .

If you are not sure of mechanical matters , it would perhaps be worth joining one of the breakdown organisations and getting them to come out and jump start your car .

Standing in front of the open engine bay, the terminals are on the right hand side, a little further than halfway up the engine (At least they were on mine if I remember correctly).

In a black plastic surround.

Aha, found a pic:

From this thread: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/engi...unable-gain-access-boot-due-flat-battery.html

This does work too - I had my last 202 stolen recovered, and we needed to use this technique to get into the boot after it had been kept at a breakers and the battery went flat lol

@mercfanuk: my car is a 1999 model so would it have this relay point in the same place? Thanks in advance

@pontoneer I wish it was as easy as joining a breakdown organization here, but no such luck as its just
Small island they don't have them :(

Mine was a 98 facelift so should be yeah - We just attached a battery charger to it, and that gave power to everything :)
