i am picking this car up tomorrow...

2003 (53) MERCEDES CL55 AMG Supercharged Coupe on eBay (end time 22-Mar-10 12:54:28 GMT)

i am picking this car up tomorrow but on looking on other sites the cost of one of these cars same age same spec vary from £15k-£24k but what makes the prices of the same class of car so different?? am i being ripped off with this one or is it worth this price?? ive seen one with 82k miles for only £17k and a silver one with 39k miles for under £16k!!! im very confused please help me....... i dont want to buy it then try and sell it in a year to get 10k less :(

The one in your link looks like a good one - it's a great colour combo and has reasonable miles. I guess older/higher mileage ones would be cheaper - are all the Kompressor 215 CL55s facelifted? I know the N/A CL55s are peanuts and have been for a while, but they're 100 odd bhp short :o

Recall that these were the best part of £100k new, so whatever you lose won't be in the same league as whoever bought it new! ;) :)

Hi thanks for your reply... it does look a good car but im not an extremely rich person and no nothing about mercedes... im just very confused to why the price varies so much......

It's a bit like hookers.. (not that I've ever used one).

They all have the same basic controls and can all do the same job.

Some are beautiful and have low mileage - some have high mileage and have been driven very hard.

Some look like Cheryl Cole and some look like Henry Cooper.

The car you are getting would seem to be in the Cheryl Cole bracket - so she's worth it.

Cheryl Cole is not a hooker btw.

I have been looking at this model for around a year now and still unsure whether to buy one or not.
It's true , the Kompressor commands a high price compared to the n/a one, but I think that is partly due to the rarity of the model.
That one is top of the price range, but does look a good example and as said is a great colour combination.

Is there a good warranty being given with the car? I think you have to be pretty wary and have a reasonable knowledge of the model to buy privately without any warranty given.
The CL55K AMG will hold it's value far better than the non supercharged IMO and it is a lot of car for the money. It isn't often a black one comes up for sale that looks in such good condition.

This one looks rather nice too

Hi the warrenty given is 3 months and its with the car dealer not one of these second market warrenties.... so basically its a good one and if i keep it in good condition it shouldnt go down in value too much?

They are beautiful cars. I've been dreaming about chopping my CLK in for one but can't decide if the running costs & insurance will be too prohibitive.

From others experience the one thing you do need to check for is the Shocks / Suspension leaking oil as they’re about £1K each to replace. That or the Pumps can fail.

The price does look a bit high, there are a couple of black ones in London for a few thousand less. If money was no object I’d have beaten you to it, I think they look much nicer than their replacement.

Sure you’ll enjoy it.

I would try and enjoy the car more than worry too much about it dropping in value. Was it an impulse buy?

It looks stunning

do you also have any idea how much this particular car would deppriciate within a year if kept in this condition and how hard it would be to find a buyer... tough questions i know... ????????????????

Mate it was a 100k new so the depreciation has been massive over the last 6+ years. It will obviously slow a lot but CL's are not known for holding their value.

However your's is a facelift car in a great colour combo so will pobably do better than most.

Different car but i almost bought this a few months ago:

picking the car up in two hours.... any more advice before i leave?? thanks for all the help so far...

You are paying top price, i have been looking for over a year now. Enjoy it.

Check the service history, it should have had the plugs done at around 54,000 miles, also the discs, very expensive.

lol peter put him off!

It is expensive though.. i sold almost the same car a couple of months ago for 18K.
