Hi

I have a C180 (manual) and have started to experience cold start problems. The car starts but then idles and clonks out (unless you rev it and drive off, it is ok then (after a short drive)). If you do not rev the engine, it dies but when you restart it, it stays alive for a bit longer.

With the above problem, it also has become sluggish at times and when trying to drive off, the engine seems to lose power.

I spoke to my local service garage who said that it may be the "actuator" (£400). He suggested I try and use branded petrol (BP Ultimate / Shell Optimax). This seems to have helped a bit but not much.
Any suggestions welcome.

Clean the throttle body out with carb cleaner before condemning the throttle body.

Throttle body?

I am clueless, where would I find that? Also, is that likely to resolve the engine cutting out?

IN the photo below, the throttle body is on the right immediately under the black inlet manifold trunking.

yeah i saved myself £300 just recently by cleaning out the throttle body, try it only a few quid for the carb cleaner, worth a shot atleast!

Will try that this weekend. Looks like the part the mechanic was saying needs to be replaced - quoted me £400+.

Thanks

My posting clearly states where I sourced the photo thank you Lord Walker.....
And for your information my car gets cleaned AT LEAST 3 times a year wether it needs it or not. (usually not.)

PS Stop spending all your time on the internet and get that 190 V8 finished. :D
