Just wondering if anyone has any advice on my current situation.

I took out insurance for a van i purchased. I had no NCB to put on the policy but was told on the phone that because i had no claims on another policy it would bring my premium down, which it did.
I also told them that i had made a claim because of a manufacturers fault on a previous policy (an electrical fault leading to fire causing a write-off, deemed manufacturers fault) but i was advised this would not make a difference due to it not being my fault.

Once the policy had been taken out, deposit paid and direct debit set up they got back to me to say the claim (manufacturers fault) meant that my policy premuim would increase....by a lot - £300!!

Ifi cancel i will loose money, if pay the 300 i will feel cheated as i wouldn't have taken out the insurance if i hadn't been advised wrongly in the first place.

On top of all this, they are rubbish on the phone, charge 10p per minute, keep me on hold for ages and don't call back when they say they will!

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Selling at distance regulations come into play here; you have 14 days to cancel.

Hello Bullwhip and weclome to the forum, I'm pretty sure all phone calls are recorded.

Ask to talk with the manager and request that listen to the tapes.

I had this with admiral when they made an error on a multicar policy some time ago, they listen to the information I provided at the time on the phone and agreed the error was theirs.

This is the way to go.

SWMBO had a dispute with Aviva over the excess (paperwork came through with higher excess) and it was resolved in her favour after tapes were checked.

The reality is it is "no claim" not "no blame". Insurers generally apportion "blame" if they didn't recover their monies. Ergo, a fire claim usually has no one to reimburse them (unless an arsonist held his hands up after the event and reimbursed the car owner's insurer - a far-fetched example but you get my drift).
If the insurer concerned recovered their payout in full then that's a different story - you'd need to prove that to the new insurers. Remember, it's an introductory bonus they have offered, which will have criteria attached to qualifying rules.
