Hi All,

I've joined this forum in a moment of need.
I have an SLK 200 Kompressor, Y Reg, and when I started it, smoke started belching out of the dashboard area on the right hand side of the driver nearish to the ignition.

I called out the RAC who said the most likely cause could be the ignition switch? Not heard of that on a MErc before though.

My problem is that I need to get it daignosed but don't know the best approach given that I have mechanical breakdown cover which may/may not cover this kind of fault, What shall I do?? Could anyone recommend a plan of action that doesn't cost me an absolute fortune? I am based in Slough.

Many thanks

Hi - welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your woes. Don't really know what to advise you, but I would have a close look at your breakdown cover and give them a call to see if you are covered and get them to agree to you taking it to a MB specialist if not a main dealer.

If it's not covered and/or they won't let you use a main MB dealer then I suggest you find a decent independent specialist on your area and get them to have a look unless your OK at taking it apart yourself.

Sorry it's not much help :(

I would pop the car down to George Frasers, he'll have a look for you and is based in Wembley. Won't charge you much either, and deals directly with warranty companies so would be able to tell you whats covered or not.
