My wife came hom last night complaining that her 1.0 Micra doesnt accelerate in 5th gear any more. I took for a drive and around town it seems fine and once up to speed it still can do its top speed but if you are in fifth and go to overtake it just seems totally unwilling to go even with your foot through the floor. There are no other symtons. Any ideas??

Did it ever accelarate in any gear, sounds just like a typical Micra to me mate

Sorry mate I have no idea but just couldnt resist.

Does a 1.0L Micra accelerate in 5th gear?

I would try some Optimax :p

I think in IT we'd describe this as a "feature" rather than a "fault"! :)

Has it got air? If so is it switched on?

On small engines like these, the aircon can sap upto 20% of the cars bhp.

Thankyou for all the useful suggestions!
Spike, last night when I drove it I had the Aircon on max heat coz it was freezing!! I feel an experiment coming on! will report later. Cheers.

my friend got a microbe as a courtesy car and if you pressed the heated rear window button while stationary the engine nearly stalled because the revs dropped so low!

Wind the elastic bands a bit tighter ?

Seriously , we have a Ka and if you pull out to overtake at anything approaching motorway speeds, you had better make sure you have a helicopter survey of the next 2 miles of road to make sure its clear !!

Tiny engines, with aircon, power steering, etc etc etc just don't mix !!

That said, i love driving it, its like a little go-kart around town and it has a steering wheel like the one in 'Demolition Man' , ok it doesnt shrink and grow if you ask it to, but its nice and chunky ..... :D

What the hell am i talking about....... Sorry !

...........Meanwhile. I tested the car. 0-60 with everything switched on Air, lights, radio ,rear window etc =19 sec. Then I turned off everything 0-60 16.3 secs which is what the book says it should take!! Then start checking the car over. Open up airbox to discover bits of leaves, oil and muck and an airfilter that has never been changed (Yes it is dealer serviced!!!) Then a quick drive down to Team Drive in for a Mahle Airfilter (£9.99). Clean air box, put in new filter and back to test the 0-60 which is now 13.2seconds ie 20% faster than Nissans figures and 30% faster than last night!!!

My wife thinks it drives like new again, and if she needs that extra bit of power on the motorway then all she needs to do is press the turbo button as suggested by spike (ie the Aircon OFF button).

Result. thanks Spike!

I'm glad you have a result.

I was always surprised by one of my ex's Fiesta 1.25 Zetec as the performance was great and not at all effected by the AC on or off.

Nitrous bottle empty?

Shouldn't the car have a switch detecting full throttle? It then diengages the compressor when you're demanding full power. Every A/C equipped car I know has this feature.

Also, what about challenging the dealership over the appalling service?

Regards,

Tim
