Yep scraped the bubble bee out of the runners, and for some reason, the roof stopped, have cleaned the slides(runners) with a soft grease, not thick, and all is fine , that was my reaction a Bee stopped it, took 5 to 10 mins to scrape it out ,it was that wedged,(must have been about an inch in size).......i thought heres a big bill, car still have the same problem with speed though 72mph, well its gone upto 77mph's now, before it goes into limp mode, as least she cant crash it LOL

Well, if the sunroof ever sticks again and you need to close it manually, pop the cover off the interior lights in the front and there is a little hole in which to insert a metal handle to close the roof. I can't remember if the metal handle is held in a clip there or if it's just in the glovebox. Just make sure the runners are greased regularly as per the service schedule and it should help it to run well. My parents had problems with the first 168 with the sunroof intermittently failing to close but it was just one of these annoying little foibles which they put up with.

A class sunroof not working

Help! I have just bought an A190 (1999) (W168). Cheap and cheerful, but most things work, barring the sunroof! As far as I can hear, the motor is NOT running when the switch is tried. Fuse is OK and rear wiper works (on same fuse).

Have just read about manual winder. I will give that a look tomorrow.

Any ideas on whether it's likely to be the motor or the switch? Guess it is most likely to be one of those, rather than a fault in the wiring.

Thanks

You might be lucky and find it's nothing more than a stuck sunroof due to none use. recently I freed off one that had been closed for 7 years and another for 3 years.
Both worked after manipulating by hand and plenty of lube.

Hi Sue

There are two motors ( i believe ) on the A class sunroof , one for each side.

What usually happens is that one fails , and pulls the sunroof unevenly , jamming it.

Lofty has info on it , but you need to buy his CD to get it .

See item 67 in link below.

Albert Rowe, Lofty's homepage

Find it hard to beleive that both motors have failed , best to check for voltage at both switch and motors.

Good luck

I may be able to help

Hello,

There is just one motor on your roof and I suspect that the roof mechanism itself is jammed and so is not enabling the motor to move at all. usually when this happens there is a slight hum. The motors are very good and so are most other components. It is always the same part that fails. I may be able to advise you further or even change your roof over for a fee. It does depend where you are. I'm in Kent. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Just make sure -it is well greased-there is a manual procedure to closing-see manual.Apparently it does require synchronising/checking once in a while-need Merc specialist to advise.
Check to see if you have a small metal bar(hex type key)-wifes car has one in the main folder.
