Hi all,

I hope someone can help me. My C240 has all of a sudden started to leak oil. I don't know the name of the component that is leaking so I have added a video.

Judging by what you have seen, is it a minor (read cheap) fix? I wanted to get some feedback before asking a mechanic/workshop.

Looking forward to your comments.

Cheers,
Alex

Not 100% clear from the vid where the oil is coming from (99%?) - but on the assumption it rising up between the oil cooler and the oil filter there are two O ring seals between the two that can dry up and go brittle with age.

Easy fix - although they do cost about £20!!

Leak is very bad, normally it's just an annoying weep/drip. Has one of the oil cooler bolts come loose? Or worse perhaps it's cracked (need to undo and prise the cooler away from the filter to check.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the quick response. I don't think anything has been touched/adjusted prior to the video.

I've taken a couple more pics. The oil comes from the seam between the two components.

So, it's just a case of unscrewing the two parts, replace with new O ring and put back together?

Cheers,
Alex

That's about it (two O rings) - the russian parts site should give you an exploded diagram that will help (will see if I can find a link at home tonight - can't access from work).

Because of the limited movement of the cooler pipes you can't move the cooler back vary far, so you don't get much room to work with when you have undone the bolts. So it's a bit fiddly making sure you get all the old (hardened/brittle) seal out.

Nasty leak but relatively cheap to fix
