Looking for advice please. Just went to start my car and the engine will not turn at all. Can hear one or two clicks when I turn the ignition but no response from engine. I had literally got out of the car 5 - 10 mins before, no problems on previous start so I can't imagine it is a battery issue. I have tried jumpstarting to eliminate but no joy, same result. All advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Ive always known that to be a battery issue. however could be the starter... try giving it a knock with something, or put the car in D, rock it back and forth then try again.

Check all fuses first.

I suspect the ignition switch is at fault. They can fail just like that. Give it a firm hit with your fist and see what happens. Also leave the key in it for 10 mins too and see if it comes back to life.

Expect to pay £600ish for a replacement. A specialist with a Star or dealer can do it for you.

Thanks to both of you for the advice. Checked fuses, nothing apparently wrong. So, on Jaymanek's advice re battery, retried jumpstart. Just as I was about to give up, it started. Main problem was to get a good connection between the donor car and my battery, particularly the positive terminal. Went for a 30 minute run to charge the battery but as soon as I turned off the ignition and retried starting, it was dead again. Looks like a new battery on Monday am.

Avoid Hellfords, my battery done the same to me when I was parked on a trading estate a long way from home, unluckilly for me there was a hellfords directly opposite "cost me £100.00". Next day found out could have got one for £60.00
